just done the rear brakes

Post by budd »

Just reassembled the rear calipers atfer a complete strip and fettle, anyone having handbrake problems don't be afraid of having go yourself, seal kit was £30 and special tool just £2 from benfield toyota ( I wouldn't try to do it without the tool the de-tensions the spring and allows the circlip to be removed) all in all a simple job that as sorted my troublesome handbrake.

was it a waste of my time then ? I don't think so, sometimes knowing you've managed to do a good job yourself, restoring the original part back to full working order, rather than simply bolting on a replacement (any monkey can do that), that said £55 is a very good price for a new caliper and certainly worth considering if your not to good with the spanners and not up to the job of fixing the original
you should post the link up, when I looked I was getting prices way more than £55, fensport £135 and euro car parts want nearly £200 (inc surcharge) !!! see link below http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Toyot ... 209&000048

Agreed when I looked they were ridiculous prices but spoke to our parts people and it was only 55 quid somehow +vat but that's claimed back. I wasn't trying to be a Dick I looked into kits for ages they were about 40 quid it's always more rewarding rebuilding things butwIth everything else I am re building its easier that way.

even + vat £55 is a very good price and if I'd been able to get them at that then I'd have seriously considered it, but I'm new to MR2s and thought I can save some cash and learn abit about them by working of the rear brakes, I was actually surprised how easy they were, I've tried to refurb Nissan rear calipers ( I used to have a GTiR) with no sucess they are very similar but I could never workout how to get the centre spring assembly out without damage (it's not held by a circlip like the Toyota) and your right if you've got alot on then using off the shelf kit is always easier and saves alot of time.
