[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 3 Turbo Retarding the timing

Post by Sparkie 86 »

Hi all i no this probably has been answered many times before. I have the following Mods: Decat, exhaust, bigger intercooler, air filter and boost controller. I have read that the timing needs to be adjusted.
I understand it from 10 degrees top dead centre but to what?
Cheers Si

Just because you've read something doesn't make it true!

+1

Leave ignition timing as it should be. 10 degrees BTDC at idle with TE1 and E1 bridged.

Retard?

Are you not talking about retarding the cams?
Rather than ignition timing?

I have shed loads of ignition timing.

Hi, thanks for all the feed back. I was only asking as i have read about it before. The car goes like stink now which i am happy with, Just wanted to know if there's anything else i needed to adjust on the engine or anything i need to do with the mods that i have? either to go better or so i don't do any damage to the engine?

Thanks Si

Don't go mad with the boost.

I've also got a decat, intake, exhaust and intercooler upgrade in the form of a ST205 chargecooler. I keep boost below 16psi where possible. My boost controller is set to reduce boost if it sees 17psi.

You have to remember that despite your upgraded intercooler, the ECU no longer has control over boost and cannot lower the boost if it detects knock and/or high intake temperatures which it would do with the TVSV hooked up.
