I have been meaning to do this write up for a while now, in the hope it would be of help to anyone doing a turbo swap

.

.

.

.

Because for me trying to remove and refit the turbo the right way was just infuriating

.

I have used this method of removing and refitting the turbo 6 maybe 7 times with no problems.

.

Step 1, Remove the x-brace, remove the air filter and pipework, remove the hot pipe and o2 sensor.

(and any heat shielding)

Step 2, Jump under the car and remove the b-pipe, remove the bolt attaching the turbo to the turbo support bracket and the 2 nuts that hold the metal oil feed/return pipe to the turbo.

Step 3, I have never tryed this but if its right could be very helpful.

.

while under the car using some ratchet extensions remove the 4 nuts that hold the turbo to the manifold.

.

.

.

If this can't be done, drop the car down and use a ring spanner like I do.

Step 4,

Remove the bolts holding the actuator and metal water feed/return pipes in place.

Then remove the water pipe from the turbo and tie it out the way so as it isn't leaking coolant.

Step 5, Remove the manifold nuts

.

.

Step 6, Pull the manifold away from the head and push the turbo towards the firewall.

Step 7, Remove manifold.

.

Step 8, Lift turbo and downpipe out together.

.

Step 9, Done

.

.

.

Make a cupa tea

To refit follow the steps in reverse.

.

One thing you may have to do differant is remove the turbo support bracket

(I know I do).

I rest the turbo on the metal oil feed/return pipe

(with a new gasket in place) and fit the manifold

(don't do the nuts up yet).

Just loosely do up one turbo to manifold nut.

Then jump under the car and fit the turbo support bracket.

.

And the 2 nuts that bolt the oil feed/return pipe to the turbo.

You should be at about step 5 now just keep going through the steps in

reverse till your finished

Best of luck to anyone trying this

.
