Fitting Original MR2 Roadster Alloys&Tyres Year 2000

I have just bagged a set of the above wheels for £50 with good tyres. 205/50/15 rear and 185/55/15 front.

My question is can I use the original Mk1 wheel-nuts to fit these? or should I buy the correct wheel-nuts for the job, and if so what do I need?

Can I run with these tyres for the time being as I'm sure I read somewhere that the optimum tyre would be to run 195/50/15 all-round.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm using Mk1 nuts with my Mk3 wheels with no problems Gazwer

Dunno what others do (lots of Mk1 owners have roadster wheels now I think)

Im using 185/205 tyres too, also with no problem

Will be fitting 195s all round when I can get the type of tyre I'm after

The rear wheels on a Mk3 are slightly wider than the front, however 195 is ideal for both wheel widths

Just need to be careful whch wheel you put where on the car when you have 195s all round

I've got mk3 wheels on my car. The rear nuts are deeper than the front ones and so I got the proper nuts. Both are shorter than mk1 nuts though, so your originals are just going to stick out and probably look a bit out of place.

I'd say swop the tyres for 195/50/15s all round as the handling will be absolutely dire with 185s on the front and 205s on the rear. All it will do is understeer. Tried a car with this setup round Rockingham, was diabolical with terminal understeer everywhere.

The MK3 wheels also have too much offset IMO as as they are ET 45 IIRC. But they will be fine. People have been fitting MK3 wheels for the last ten years to MK1's. It's a cheap if not particularly interesting way to go in respect of moving up to 15" wheels.

Definitely, I ran the original MK3 set up for about 4 days, couldn't take it any longer, the handling was crap. 195 x 50 all round are spot on
1a or 1b wheel nuts will be fine, although the 1b's will be a bit long. You can pick up a new short set on eBay for around £20/30. the same length will do front and back, although the wheels are a different width the nuts are the same.
You want 12mm x 1.5 parallel nuts with a captive floating washer like this



I've had mine on the car for the last 7 years with no problems

Thankyou for all your advice. I think i may try and sell the tyres which are on the wheels at present, and then go buy some nice new 195's.

And, if you use the search facility you'll find at least one thread where tyres have been extensively discussed

S-Drives should be easily obtainable

AD08s have been on back order from Japan for several months

Picked the wheels up this afternoon, they are split mint, the tyres are all 6mm+ and excellent, they came with original wheel nuts and genuine Toyota locking nuts.

What a bargain for £50

Well chuffed.

Now time to sell the tyres and pick some nice 195's up
