Can anyone recommend a decent body shop in the Cheshire/Manchester area who is familiar with MK1 MR2s?? I want a proper job that'll last!

Cheers

Paul is in the North East, but has been doing some great work on Mk1's for a long time now.

Send me a PM and I will forward you contact details of someone who is currently doing them in the North West. I dont want to put his mobile number on here just incase he doesnt want me too.
"If in doubt - just make the numbers up!" ;)

I live in Macclesfield and am putting my recently aqquired MK1 into a local bodyshop in the next two weeks, i'll let you know how i get on.

I would have used Paul, but logistically its a PITA for me seeing as the car isn't MOT'd at the moment.

Thanks guys.

I got in touch with Jim Ledden who's in the middle of setting up a unit north of Ormskirk. He reckons he'll be factoring his own wheel arches within a few months. I'll let you know how we get on...

Rusty wheel arches again...

Post by j0nathan »

I am in the same boat as the original poster. I am in the North West and need to replace the rear arches, attention required to b-posts and a-posts as well I think.

Did anything come of this? Can someone recommend someone in the North West?

Thanks,
Jon

I think Lauren was quite happy with the standard of work on her car - IIRC she put up a thread detailing what had been done - try searching for it.

You can see all the details of my restoration stuff on my website:

Just click on 'MK1a restoration' to see all the car stuff.

While the bodyshop did an okay job it is not concours by any means. It is acceptable for what i paid i guess, but i would say its worth spending a bit extra if you can afford it and wouldn't particularly recommend the bodyshop i used.

I'm in Derbyshire and my car is going into my friends bodyshop in september and basically i'll be doing the following:

Gear box
Clutch
Waterpump
Belts
16'' alloys(refurb) + rubber
Near and off side arch panels (sill return, arch + rear corner)
Complete Headlight modules + motors
shocks + lowering springs
Elise back box
Poly bush kit

Other work being done
A post welding
Windscreen out to sort out rusting top section(only light at the moment)
Headlight mod(using above headlight modules)
Exhaust(using above)
Refurb and powdercoat calipers

Parts i want / need

Front wings(defo drivers passenger maybe ok with TLC)
braided hoses

Work already done

Leather seats replaced for minters
Clear lenses
Front bumper bar
Front bumper skin
Bonnet
Radiator
Slam panel
stereo with changer
new battery
gear gaitor
Stereo surround
central interior trim bit over petrol tank (i'm sure it has a name?)

Obviously i have done some of the easy bits myself but he has completely rebuilt my front end already about 2 years ago when i got friendly with the car in front (yes it was a toyota) so i'm asking him to finish the job now i've decided to put some money into her!!

I'm takeing loads of Photos and will let you all know what kind of job i end up with!!

I've seen loads of his work so i know hes pretty clued up with what he does so if anyone needs someone in the derbyshire area i can put you in touch if needs be..
