Steering wheel diameter (mk1b)

Post by brawr »

Hi folks, looking at aftermarket steering wheels and want one of equal or slightly smaller diameter than stock. Unfortunately I'm not with my mister at the moment so can't run a measuring tape across it. Does anyone know the outside diameter of a standard mk1b steering wheel?
Thanks in advance, Adam.

Have just changed to a 350mm and there's no real difference at all. Mine is dished and also has the boss (which normally place the steering wheel in the same position as the standard unless the new wheel is dished) and the a snap off boss which puts the wheel in an awesomely comfy position from my perspective.

I have a modified Mk1a D-shaped wheel on my car at the mo Adam 330mill

Am quite happy with that size

Also have another 330mill wheel which I like but can't use till I get a Momo hub

As long as the boss is of euro 6 hole fitment which is what the wheel should bit should fit Peter. If not can you make up an adapter plate?

I don't have a hub at all Alex

I bought one from a geezer called Sims, who sells Mk1 parts on eBay

It was absloute rubbish

Made of nasty metal, arguably not even safe to use and neither the horn nor indicator cancelling worked

He asked me to return it for replacement or refund

I have received neither

After reminding him a few times he sent me an email full of viruses :!: :!: GRRRRR :(

Breakers ay. Lol
Driftworks do them and their prices are very reasonable and as always with dw stuff it's top quality!

I have a 320mm D shape OMP wheel and i dont get on with it as its to small, 350mm would be ideal for me i think.

without power-steering, i think 350mm is ideal too :) friend of mine has had 330mm raid steering wheel on PS equipped ST185 celica and it felt too stiff (poor leverage)

What tyre pressures do you run at thr front Un1eash ?

I find with 30 psi & the 330mill wheel, steering is nice & light

Could be partly dependent on tyres & on caster/camber settings too ?

I run 40psi on track :)

The stock 370mill wheel feels clumsy & nasty now :(

I run 30psi all round, it might be more the fact its a D shape wheel.

Still havent had my geo looked at since fitting my polybushes and konis 5 years ago.
