MK1a Retrim

Post by kgb603 »

I decided to treat my 1a to a retrim, as it was showing its 27 year old age in there... ground in dirt, worn out foam, missing stitching, burns, tears etc, you cant really tell on this "before" photo, but it was all there:

I went for the same 1a pattern, but had it contrast french stitched instead of piped and went for suede & leatherette to compliment the metallic beige & black bumper look. Here are the "after" photos:

The steering wheel was looking a little tired through wear & sundamage, so it has been redone in leather with contrasting stitch

the doorcard cloth & dashboard insert has been redone in suede, as I couldnt abide the idea of mismatching materials in there & the 1a armrest was redone in leather & suede with the contrasting stitch aswell.

Here is is a pic of the inspriration behind the colour scheme - Lambo Reventon:

All this for less than some people have paid just for a pair of seats. Cant go wrong & best of all I've got that new car smell!

The trimmer's name is Ant Ward, his company is called Dubholstery & is based in Warrington.

Love it!

The steering wheel looks great with the coloured stitching and logo. :)

Very nice indeed, you might get a bit of flaming from the purists but screw them that's gorgeous. :thumleft:

Thanks chaps :thumleft:

Chris - I reckon between us both we may well have the best looking mk1 on UK roads today!

Paul - I know what you mean about the purists, I deliberated for a while before taking the plunge as I am a purist at heart, but I think this is close enough to the original design for most to appreciate it, even they wouldnt have it in their own cars!

Looks nice but I reckon the gear stick gaiter needs redoing now in a matching material. Either of the two would look OK I reckon.

I know what you are saying, I was worried it would be overkill, so left it. I might get him to knock up a gaiter for me in suede to see how it looks.

Yes. Your interior would go nicely in my car.......

Get him to knock up a carpet in that colour too? Maybe that would be where it got silly.

It would mate, your car is awesome, I dont think I'll ever get close to the look you have achieved externally!

Carpet - nah, thats a bit OTT for my tastes. Some posh mats maybe.
