Conversion on your drive!!!! Nice work!!! I wanted to give it a go with a few mates but things didn't work out and Luke saved my ass on this one!!!!

I think I will be the same mate, driving it as much as I can!!!!!!

I think the Rev 3 lump can hit around 280 with all the bolt on mods and a EBC so that's my aim.

But before that I want to uprate the suspension and brakes.

I usually improve the handling and brakes before going for more power but with the opportunity to drop the turbo lump in I couldn't resist!!!

How about you? Are you aiming for something special power wise?

To be honest I think this is going to be quick enough for now (for me anyway).

Well it was a pain took me 2 weeks for it to be done, uprated all supensuin , grooved , drilled discs and pads , ive only uprated intercooler it's stock rev 2 stock exhuast stock airfilter , it's stock boost at 0.7 i believe I'm planning on getting a ebc and upping it to 0.8 maybe 0.9 I've had turbos before but always blew up , i plan to keep this healthy it's quick enough for me and only on 60,000 miles , I'll end up messing around no doubt , i have a build thread on here mate check it out of your bored!!

Good luck with car mate you'll be smilling soon!!

Ps is this your first turbo?

Thanks mate, really looking forward to getting the car back!!

Yep its my 1st turbo and 1st Jap ride!!!!!

Your plan sounds good to me!!! Lets hope both are cars stay reliable!!!

I will check your build thread out!!!

I have an Apexi Induction Kit, HKS Exhaust system and Blitz BOV that came with the donor car. Lukes sorting out the charge cooler so as soon as I sort out the suspension and brakes I can get a boost controller and that's me pretty much done..................................

apart from interior, exterior, gauges, pillar pod, steering wheel, alloys, tyres and probably a load other stuff that I will want after reading endless build threads :?

Thank you, not painted much for a while, too busy working on the 2 and the Civic plus weather not been the best for much, looking forward to seeing the beast! I can't decide whether to save for a V6 or Turbo swap...

Mate, I can't wait. I spoke to Luke yesterday and the cars nearly ready!!!!!!!!

Have you had a turbo car before?

I've always wanted a turbo car, I've always wanted a Jap ride and I've always wanted a MR2 and now I'm finally getting it. I've also always wanted an RX7 but they are just way too pricey to try and run on my budget :?

To be honest I bet the power delivery and drive-ability of the v6 might be better but whenever I drive my mates turbo cars the feeling when the boost kicks in is so addictive.

I'm not sure what its going to be like to have one for a daily driver and if I'll get bored of it but for now I'm all fired up for a turbo 8)

If you've owned a load of turbos before then maybe try the v6.

What are costs of doing a v6 conversion compared to a turbo?

I can give you a breakdown of my costs to compare.

Not had a Turbo car but have driven other peoples, have a friend with a mint Escort RS Cosworth, love high revving Jap stuff like Honda's and fancy the low down power and sound of the V6 plus the higher reliability. Cost is about £3-£4k for the complete V6 swap, sure the turbo is cheaper, any good news for you, will have a smile on your face for sure...

very interesting progress thread mate, I too am planning on heading down the conversion path from NA to Turbo.

Seen a fair few rev 3 turbos being broken but not seen many rev3 turbo complete cars as salvage, guess you fell lucky with your find... :)

Keep up the good work

Thanks mate :thumleft:

Watch copart like a hawk! I was on gumtree, ebay and copart everyday waiting for a rev3 turbo and took a long time to find.

Copart regularly has rev2/1 turbos for sale but rarely any rev3s.

But they do come up (mines did). I'm usually on there looking for a bargain to buy so if I see one I will try and give you a heads up.

Went to Luke's over the weekend to check the car out. OMG!! The engine bay looks amazing!!! Luke really does produce works of art!!!!!

Met up with some great forum members when over at Lukes so nice meeting you guys :thumleft:

Anyway, I've stopped spending money purely because I run out of cash

So in the past couple of weeks I bought a steering wheel from a forum member :thumleft:

Image

Alloys are at the refurbers but I did get my tyres. I went for Continental Sport Contact 2s all round - Epic cost but I wanted some decent rubber for my 1st turbo car to help with my lack of driving skill

Image

I also got some spigot rings in a lovely yellow 8)

Image

And finally some engine bay pics:

Luke even cleaned up the sides of the engine bay - What a legend!!!
Image

New Engine and charge cooler rad fitted

Image

HKS HiPower (I think  ) which needs a clean
Image

Charge cooler pump mounted under gearbox - Quality work by Luke. I can hardly hear the pump!!

Image

Thats all for now. I get my alloys on Friday and off to Japfest on Saturday!!!

More pics when I get the car back with a video of the engine running and hopefully my new wheels on!!!

I don't think I can describe how excited I am :D

Right small update.

Unfortunately the car was not ready for Japfest but I went anyway. Ended up sitting for over 2 hours in traffic just to get in!! It was a proper nightmare!!!

Didnt really meet many MR2 owners because by the time I got to the stand there was hardly anyone there :?

Next time I hope I will get a chance to meet more members.

Anyway Car update:

Issues with my ABS system have now been sorted and the 1st proper test drive was done.................

The doner car was not drivable so Luke or myself had no idea what condition the drivetrain was in.

Turns out the diff is knackered

Another box had been arranged and I hope to have my car back this weekend

Costs have spiraled out of control on this one. Let hope Luke does NUS discounts :oldtongue:
