[Mk2] [NA] clutch slip

Post by almondo »

hi guys, was out a couple of weeks ago when clutch sliped, peddle changed went softer, but could still get gears with no crunching, parked her up, tried it day after she was ok, til yesterday put foot down a bit and she sliped again, is this normal for a clutch on its way out , gonna try it again today, thanks, alan

Clutch slip will be clutch wear (or possibly heavy contamination - but unlikely)

In theory it is possible for slave cylinder not to retract, but just about unheard of.

Time for new clutch.

Highly, highly unlikey (i've never seen it). I only mentioned it since in theory, it could be a cause.

But to check slave, have someone press the pedal up and down whilst you watch the slave cylinder rod operating from the engine bay.

I had a similar thing, budget for a new clutch.

It had transpired that mine was actually on its way for a long time - since I bought the car at least. I presumed I was getting wheelspin between shifts when I was driving quickly when it turned out to be clutch slip.
