[Mk2] [Turbo] rev 2 turbo wont start properly and then dies when you try to pull off

Post by turboben »

my rev 2 is having a few issues,
when u go to start it trys to fire then dies
when it does eventualy start it idles rough
then when u try to pull of it cuts as soon as its under load
if you can get it driving it missfires badly under load and cuts out and if you stop it then refuses to rev at all and the second you touch accelerater it cuts the revs

any ideas guys??
also stinks of fuel
i was thinking pugs leads and cap and arm
or could it be fuel pump?
ive already tried changing the afm

Does sound a bit like the afm though...mine did this a few times when the plug worked loose. Might be worth having a good look/test of the cable and plug that goes into the afm?

Check the resistance on the afm pins.

Also make sure the points on your distributor cap are in good condition, and make sure you've got the rubber seal that sits between the distributor and the cap. I'd never had one of these and always had trouble starting/driving in the rain. Fitted a new one a few weeks ago and its been plain sailing ever since. (just in time too looking at the weather at the moment)

so i changed the dizzy cap and arm today aswell as new ngk plugs gapped to 0.8mm with no improvement
checked all vacuum pipes and all ok
checked maf again and its ok and so it all wireing to it
ht leads are on order
im begining to think this is a fuel problem although the old plugs were very black and sooty so id say it over fueling caused by no spark
any ideas???

Check ALL hoses and clips CAREFULLY from AFM to throttle body.

Have you checked the pipes coming from the intercooler?

I drove a rev3 which idled and drove perfectly till you gave it some and then was like hitting a brick wall on and off. Turned out that the hose had split underneath where it connects to throttle body.

turned off and restarted and it strugled to startcoughed and spluttered then died
