[Mk2 NA] factory immobiliser on G-Limited - fob problems

Post by DotNetter »

Hi all

When I bought my MR2 the owner forgot to give me the orginal Toyota imobiliser fob because he'd had a Thatcham approved system fitted instead.

He's now trying to send me the fob but has a slight problem.

He also owns a Celica which apparently has the same standard security system as the MR2 - so they both use similar fobs.

He can't recall which fob goes with which car and so doesn't know which one to send me...also each fob now has a dead battery.

Is there any way he can work this out...He's not even sure if the orignal systems on either car are still wired in or if they've been disabled over the new systems he's had fitted...so he's not sure he can test the fobs even if he replaces the batteries.

Any ideas?

Cheers

There are NO factory security systems present on ANY japanese market mk2's. What you're being offered is simply a remote central locking keyfob.

Hi Rogue

I respect your opinion given your experience with the MR2 but I have to say that I'm more than confused now.

Both my G-Limited and my father-in-laws have a small circular "docking port" for an immobiliser to the bottom-right of the steering wheel on the dash. This needs to be activated to disable his imobiliser...I'm only assuming mine is the same since I don't have the fob.

On the "docking port" there are a couple of copper terminals and a red LED visible and matching terminals on the fob. On my father-in-laws, he has to physically maintain contact between the contacts and press the fob 3 times...or it has to flash 3 times (I can't remember specifics).

It does remotely arm the central locking (and the alarm/immobiliser since the indicators flash).

I suppose it's possible the both cars were fitted with the same aftermarket security system while in Japan?

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

It's deffinately not just remote locking though.

My previous G-Limited never had this so it does go towards supporting what you say.

Cheers

Can you post some pictures? Any part numbers, brands or logos on anything? Typically, Toyota's remote central locking system was a dealer fit option and was located under the driver's seat (often fixed with velcro or a strap). This was complemented with a button to disable the system on the dashboard.

Are any of these components visible?

Okay, as promised heres a pic of the dash in my car.

The fob remotely unlocks the doors but to disable the immobiliser on my father-in-laws car, you have to touch touch the fob against this round bit with the 3 copper contacts.
