Front Bumper side lights

Post by ctc_celtic »

Quick questions, is there separate bulbs for indicator and parking lights on a standard MR2?

On mine there is one bulb, dual filament, that does indicators and parking lights, my problem is the parking lights are amber and so failed our local car test.

Should be a 382 indicator bulb and a separate 501 sidelight bulb.

Sound like american lights with no sidelights :-k

Was thinking that. The fella who had the car before me had a Veilside front bumper that i replaced with a standard one. Not sure how he tested the car before, but there is only one bulb holder there now.

I can only assume he got it rewired to suit the bumper and i have no idea what i'm going to do now.
Is it possible to get dual colour bulbs??

Not sure if its the same connector block on the US loom, albeit wired differently from the plug if that makes sense.

Best to whip the front lens out and have a look at how the connector is wired. Maybe take some pics, stick them up to help you further.

I know the UK and JDM cars have a rectangle 3 pin plug with indicator/side/earth wires.

If you can mate, take some pics of the wiring to see what you're dealing with.

Hope that helps :thumleft:

Suppose it's easy enough with the all amber lenses (US) to swap the single filament bulb holder for a double and have a stop/tail bulb in there to act as indicator/sidelight combined.

If that is the case, then some new indicator/sidelight looms and some UK front lenses may solve your problems :thumleft:

Standard lights have 2 bulbs,American spec have one

you can drill a hole in the rear and fit UK or import looms ,what type depends on your fitment ,import and UK are different ,as are the fitment between revisions

ive got a set of standard UK lights, orange and white ,with looms you could have for the test

or you could wire in these duel colour bulbs

Looked at these earlier on (different ones), but i seen these;

With a resistor in place they wont flash quickly, which is the reason i had dismissed them in the first place.

See the little spades on these are at different hights, is that different to standard UK bulbs, always thought those two spades were at the same hight?

Anyone else think these would be worth a try, would save me a lot of hassle if they did?

Ill have a look at the offset on the pins later today ,

those bulbs are just white though ?

what front lights do you have fitted ,the all orange import ones ?
if so it wont matter what bulb you fit, the sidelights will still be orange and a failure

another option is to wire in some separate DRLs as sidelights

Mines an import as well, but for the new bumper i bought the clear lenses, i wonder if i got standard import lenses and put them in would it pass.

Our test in ireland is different to the UK MOT, but i think they only allow driving lights to be white or yellow.

They're not driving lights though, some Volvo's and BMW's have organge lights on the side of the car and as parts of the front lights, lorries have them all down the side. Just as long as they don't flash :) ...
