High revs = 3 warning lights on dash ???

Post by ricc »

hello

When I rev my rev1 n/a above about 4000 revs three lights come on; on the left side of the dash the battery warning light, and the one to the right of it...(or maybe left, can't remember) and on the right of the dash the enginelight with the fan infront of it comes on....

when the revs drop below about 4K the lights go out??

Any ideas??? Thanks

The cat temperature light, engine fan light, and battery light are all integrated into the charging system, so if the battery goes bad or the alternator packs up, these 3 will always light up, you may find your alternator is on its way out, or that the belt is abit loose and possibly slipping over 4000rpms??

hmm could be a real can of worms that's opened mate, had the same thing happen to me, 1 month later and new alternator fitted and it still aint fixed! How old is your car?

I'd start by taking the 3 pin plug out of the back of the alternator and making sure you have 12 volts at each pin before you replace the alternator as it could be a wiring problem not a component that's not working

I had same problem on my Rev1 NA. Battery was gone. Have just swapped in a battery from a Vectra TD and it's working again. Tried to get a battery from Mr T. A severe case of "computer says... no" I'm afraid. :-) Even with the VIN number AND the car model number they were powerless to sell me a replacement battery!

If you want to get a generic new battery, I believe the spec should be:

Voltage [V]: 12
Battery Capacity [Ah]: 60
Cold Cranking Current, EN [A]: 390

I believe Varta do one, the '560 068 039', short code D27w.

If you're having problems now, you really will have problems in the winter if it is the battery.

My battery got so low 'cos the garage had left lights on or something. on the drive home all my lights went out and my indicators stopped working whilst I was driving. Nice. :-)

Hell of a car to have dodgy battery on, especially with the elctric power steering.

I used to work for exide and got my batteries very cheap, sorted out a few members on here for £20.
The CCA is important, but any supplier should have the correct battery for the 2, its just a case of them being bothered to look it up!
