I renewed with Classic car as well this year, £285 on an N/A. They were helpful and beat everyone else I tried, including Sky I'm afraid.

Agreed on most of that although the insurance industry is guilty of facilitating and encouraging the claim culture

Death claims cost next to nothing compared to serious injury..

+1 to the classic car insurance suggestion. I bought my Rev2 Turbo as a second car (have a MK5 Golf GTI for daily use), insured with Peter Best - £230 for fully comp, 3,000 miles a year, breakdown and european driving.

Alrighty Dazz! :thumleft: I'll presume that when he says 'compensate' he means financial compensation.. if this is true then my statement is accurate. Considering he has mentioned costs throughout his post I dont think I am wrong, I could be, who knows! Either way, I dont really give a monkeys and my post does not represent any other view than my own.

Likewise, a broker, but not cars.

I wasn't being too specific just airing that insurers run considerable exposures that we don't often think about. Sadly as far as £ are concerned death is usually cheaper than very serious injury due to the medical costs and rehabilitation and cost to convert houses, provide long term care etc for an indeterminate time. It's the same worldwide.

The emotional cost can't be measured in money.

The law says we have to have third part insurance for a reason - to compensate an injured party as for most of us our own means are insufficient. £10 a month for life doesn't help a paraplegic!

One of my pet hates is people who don't buy insurance or don't declare changes to their car which invalidates insurance, or try to be cute in some way as if there is a disaster there may be no insurance.

I still think car insurers sometimes have very odd rules though!

None - they're all aware. Just don't fancy paying for insurance like the rest of us do.

At least BiB are now looking into the scrotes that come out with "it's on my mate's trade policy, innit".

A real bummer when they pick up 6 points though, and even better, the owner of the trade policy is awarded 6 points too for permitting!

Something must have to give in the end though. It's becoming ridicoulos the amount people have to pay, and also the amount of fraud that goes on.

It really is becoming a joke.

How does an insurance broker work, i can't see where their margin comes from? Is it like a pimp?

My problem is that im central london, no garage, no no claims as my previous car was classic so i didnt get no claims, although im 29 with no convictions...
Any way i am still currently on the trade policy and as i re-upholster cars for the garage in question i do technically need it all be it not for my MR2 but i do drive customers cars from the garage to my workshop to strip them.. My car is registered on the policy as a private vehicle and i have been stopped by "city police" who once gave me three points for kissing my wife while stopped at traffic lights!!!!! Yes really!!! And they were cool about the insurance, however i want my own so i start to build up some no claims and £1200 while high is payable... £3999 is a joke...

What I dont understand is why it would be 3999 for 3rd party but £1200 fully comp with the same company (admiral) makes no sense to me....

Kiising your wife at the lights

I kid you not!!! Some fat dikey city police woman.... Searched my car for drugs, sniffer dogs, carpets up etc etc then a FULL inspection to make sure it was road legal (spanking bmw) then decided that i was driving without due care and attention!!! I think i could of avoided it but i was seriously ranting and they didnt like it... I think calling her a Nazi was what sealed my fate but she was.... A fat ugly b1tch nazi...LMAO
Problem is with city police is they are the best equipped police in the land but they have NO crime to actually deal with..

If it was say Hackney police they would have considered me a model citizen for being sober and not possessing any fire arms... Ahhhhh London..... Love and hate it.. LOL

Ollie - do you have any figures on the % of claims made out of the total number of insurance policies taken out in 1 year?

Whilst I know it's easy for people to jump on insurers for being expensive but when people are being asked to pay several thousand for a year's insurance it's not difficult to see where they are coming from - people are literally being priced off the road now.

The reason I'm interested is because I haven't had any accidents in the last 10+ years (touch wood  ). I'm thinking surely the number of people paying for insurance and not having accidents must outnumber the people that do have accidents by quite a lot? Just trying to make sense of these high insurance costs :eye:

Just to make you guys jelly, I pay ($300) 150 quid a year full comp on my mr2 turbo. Excess is ($250) 125 quid.

Do you guys get no claims bonus for life? After four years no claims, you get the 60% no claims discount for life, even if you claim.

You guys are getting rorted. You have a ton of different companies all vying for your hard earned buck, the free market would normally mean that you guys would have cheap insurance but you don't, we would have about five insurance companiesin total, and three of those are owned by the same outfit. The difference is here insurance isn't compulsory.

You say that but in my experience there are only 5 underwriters or less (Aviva, Liverpool victoria, Bell,?,?) and that fundamentally sets the prices.

So when an uninsured driver hits you you have to claim on your policy? What if they hit a pedestrian or somebody else uninsured ... who pays for their damage or injury?
