(mica blue) and silver metalic costing extra, or so I am led to beleiveChris

Yes, I still can't get my head round these colour names though Chris

My Ice Blue metalic paint is officially called Ice Blue Mica by Mr T

So does they mean

Then there's the much darker blue that they call Mica Blue

Doesn't seem to make sense to me

Re: Black mk1's
The mica blue is officially called Dark Blue Pearl but nobody will actually call it that in conversation.
If you say Mica Blue, everyone knows you mean the dark blue one.

The light blue one is colloquially known as Helios Blue but no idea why.

The only colour on a mk1 that was offered throught out it's life cycle
(a and b variants) was Super Red.
Even White changed at the end from Super White to White.

I am starting to bore myself now.

If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

Re: Black mk1's

Is super red the same as super red 2 on the mk2's?

To be fair I'm not sure even Toyota could make their mind up what the two metallic blues are called.

I guess all this confusion is the reason paint codes exist

I've never seen any of these colours on the road but have seen a SORNed Sherwood in a barn once, don't know if it was ever repaired.
Sherwood

there's one of these two roads down from me, and it's in good condition, never ever seen it being driven though, but it does move cos it isn't always there.

Ahhhh! i think that finally explains this

Mica is Mr T's word for metalic

Dark blue metalic mica pearl if we have our anoraks on
colour is dark blue
its metalic
finish is mica pearl
same goes for light blue/medium red/burgundy red etc.

Re: Black mk1's
So question
- are the metallic greys
(I don't mean silver) rarer than the blacks?
I've seen far fewer than black ones.

/edit ignore me, I've just read the thread again and can see they are!

I do regret not buying a gunmetal SC that was for sale about 5 years ago.
.
.never seen it since, wonder what happened to it.

Still trying to bottom this out

OK so say we have a car in dark blue metalic paint

What the heck is a mica pearl finish

Surely the finish is metalic dark blue

I still don't get it

Metallic paint gets it's sparkle from tiny bits of aluminium mixed in with it.

Pearl or pearlescent paint is similar but has a
'rainbow' effect under certain lighting conditions.
This is achieved by putting using flakes of
mica
in the paint instead of aluminium.

On that basis it's technically inaccurate to describe the mica finishes on MR2s as metallic but as everyone associates the term with sparkly paint it's accepted normal use and most people aren't even aware of the difference
(I wasn't fully until I googled it just for this post although I did know that mica was a mineral of some kind and had made the leap that it was probably the source of the sparkle

Ahhhh well done Kaiowas

Think I've got it now

So my car isn't Ice Blue metalic

It's Ice Blue mica pearl

Re: Black mk1's
I've got a gunmetal Mk1
(not sure of the correct paint code or name though!) which i am doing some light restoration to, and hopefully a 3.0 VVTi conversion if funds permit.
I have the engine, it's all the other bits that add up
