Its taken a while to find the time but i finally removed my catalytic converter. it has been overheating (cat warning light comes on within a minute of driving). I found that the innards are loose and sitting on the temp sensor. I can see a bit of light through it not much though...
Would this be the cause or an effect of high emission? (high co and low lamda on a rev2 turbo)
So i finally looked inside my cat...

Yeah i'll be sticking it back on gutted at first anyway so that will answer the question. I wonder if its possible to 'read' a cat like you can read a sparkplug.

Just an update, the car flew through the emissions test with a gutted cat. CO 0.4% (limit 3.5%) and HC 103 (limit 1200).
