15" / 16"

Post by mihogal12 »

Im looking to buy a new set of wheels for my white over silver mk1b

I like the look of 16" but i want a car that i can throw into a few corners also.

What offset should i go for in whatever size i choose?

My understanding is the car might run better with teh bigger side wall that you have with 15's but personally i like the look of the bigger wheels which is why i ahve gone for 16's.

if i remeber correctly the standard offset is 35... or maybe 38.

16's are ok just don't go more than 195 width
or tramlinning will be an issue.

I, personally, am going to use 15" at most, with 195/50 rubber. a friend of mine has some really cracking looking lightweight OZ ultraleggeras in red and they are waiting just for me ;)
I am trying to stick with my own rule +1" from stock max. may sound stupid but that's my deviation :D

i think 7x15" fit perfekt on the MK1 when you have no spoilers.
With spoilers you have to use 7x16", that looks nicer.
Now in winter in the garage my MK1 stand on 17" looks awesome, but without any comfort.....

Ya 17 is a bit much for me i think. dont get me wrong they look amazing but i like a bit of comfort and go kart like handling when driving about in the summer.

For trackwork and handling, 15s with 195/50/15s is pretty optimal really.
