I was thinking of fitting one of these . . . .

Seems a good idea if it works as described.

Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!
That simply blocks your exhaust gases from exiting the system. I wouldn't put that anywhere near a car of mine.
A proper diverter will switch between full silencers, or open/less silenced pipes. Often controlled by boost on turbo engines, or rpm on N/As.
Plenty of examples on Google.

This sounds awesome to me, may get one fitted to the Nur spec at some point
Quite pricey though

Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!
Here's a Lotus diverter valve setup:
The solenoid valve opens a second pipe increasing gas flow and noise level.

Could be an interesting project!
Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!
I told my neighbour to fk off...did the trick it's his fault I have this ball stuck to my head.

Here's how topsecret went about making a ecv exhaust system. 94dB with cutout closed, 120dB cutout open.

I have already bought an 80mm b-pipe and some 80mm piping, so I am definitely going to have a go at making a ecv exhaust this year. I really like the idea of running no silencer, non baffle mufffler straight through exhaust and at the flick of a swich or by dropping off boost the exhaust engages a nice quiet silencer .

so doesnt that mean most of the cars on this site are illegal
Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!
If its now and again, like you say - your neighbour should be more tolerant and consider themselves lucky if thats all that annoys them.
However ..... on the flip side, low frequency exhaust boom does penetrate a house structure, and if its rattling resonant things inside the house - that can get a little wearing.
My blue flame exhaust was like this, then after changing the tips ( for cosmetic reasons ) this reduced the boom at idle significantly. Not suggesting you should change the tips, but just one thing i can vouch for that works.
I know its been mentioned tongue in cheek, but taking her for a spin in your car - may diffuse the situation greatly.

Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!
I wouldn't worry, nothing will come of it and if it passes the mot then you are legal emissions wise, just pull away slowly, don't rev it like you already said you don't and don't do anything between 11pm and 5am i think it is, noise complaints only go through if its constant like a disco in your house at stupid o'clock, a car pulling up or driving off from your address is not going to have the police get involved
Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!
I've never had any complaints.. I'm running a Nurspec without a bung.. not a quiet exhaust..
Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!
Just ordered a 3" SS Jetex silencer to weld onto the mid pipe of my Blitz NUR R, hopefully it'll quieten things down a little.
Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!
Some good links to diverter valves, I intend to fit one ot my twin exhaust on one pipe making it a single exit some of the time and a twin at others. It should make it quieter at low revs although not half as loud as even though only one pipe is working its still passing all the gasses.
Could wire it up to the TVIS as its going to do something like the same function and at similar revs.

Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!
Oh dear my motor is pretty loud when i push the pedal - apexi hayabusa with a deteriorating flexi. I pull away quietly from home and try ti keep as discreet as possible.
Also note, solid motormounrs create a lot of extra noise from the engine. They did in my corolla too and maybe added twice to the noise on that.
Doing a driveby with my car as it is probably wouldnt go well on a sound chart.
