[Mk2] [Turbo] Intercooler and Boost Question

Post by Sparkie 86 »

Hi All,
I Have not written on here in ages. I am buying a blitz boost controller shortly. I have a rev 3 turbo. What is the standard boost set at? and what is the max i can run with out it going bang? I currently have full exhaust, air filter and de cat. I have seen some intercoolers with a fan attached to it and some with out. Is it best to get one with a fan?

Any help would be good

Thanks Si

Around 1bar is save.
1,2 bar is max. Wouldn't go near that. Only a little gain, not worth the risks.

Intercooler needs fresh cool cold air.
You do the math. Would it benefit from a fan? ;)

Me:
Running 1,11 bar (rose autom. due to the cold weather, normally around 1,05)
With fan, constantly sucking.

My mods:
( <--- as can been seen in my garage )

Apexi Power intake;
Berk Technology 3" downpipe;
GReddy SMIC;
HKS Hi-Power 3" exhaust;
EBC @ 1,05 bar.

Gives:

CEngHp: 277.6 CHp @5977 RPM
CEngTq: 370 CNm @4726 RPM
CWhPHp: 247.5 CHp @5977 RPM

So yes, 270hp is possible. But not at the wheels ;)

I see what u mean now. Yea i would be happy with that kinda result. I have looked into a intercooler. Nearly all are sold with out a fan. Do they have a fan on the standard intercooler?

Stock intercooler has got stock fan.

Buy a better SPALfan if you intend to buy an aftermarket intercooler.

For example:

Hi mate, stock rev 3 turbo boost is 13 psi. I wouldn't run anymore than 1.1 bar on the stock CT20b turbo.

Most people reattach the stock fan to an aftermarket IC, or better yet, fit a spal fan and shroud :thumleft:

Don't forget the Intercooler Backing Shroud sparkie. Or what air the intercooler does get can just go around the ic instead of through it.

Boost settings..

0.8 bar Low boost 8)
1.0 bar High boost :evil:
1.1 bar Overtake mode :mrgreen:

Kinda useless to get different presets.
Just control your right foot, no need for fancy low/high/medium boost settings.

Mine's on 1,11 all the time. :thumleft:
