WOW!

Just fitted my Nakamichi CD400 head unit into my Mk1.

Not an elaborate system by any means:

- Infinity Kappa 42.5 Front Speakers

(4")

- Infinity Kappa 32.5cf Rear speakers

(3.5")

- Clarion SRV303 Active Subwoofer behind passenger seat

- Halfords flat silver speaker cable

I had a Sony MDX-C6500R minidisc head unit before, with Sony's 10 disc ESP changer in the boot, and while I was not impressed with minidisc performance, the CD's sounded rather good.

.

.

or so I thought.

.

Replaced the Sony with the Nak CD400

(bargin at Halfords now for

£250-£300!), and after soldering the speaker cables to the multiblock plug, and connecting it all up, sat down for a listen.

WHAT a difference

Some tracks sound the same, but others have so much more detail, they sound like different recordings.

The CD400 also has considerably better amps than the Sony, as I can drive the speakers far louder than I could with the Sony without a hint of distortion.

No doubt the CD400 is being held back by the standard of the other components, but for a

'stock' system, that costs roughly

£500, it's phenominal.

Not to mention the CD400 suits the Mk1 with its basic styling.

Only downside is you can't fit a changer to the CD400, but with this sound quality.

.

.

who cares!!

Rather intrigued to see what my serious system will sound like when I get my Mk2.

Highly recommended

Cheers,
Jon
