In reality 500hp isn't such a huge figure these days.

To achieve this you would need a minimum of ;-

Forged bottom end & healthy condition motor with ARP's and metal h/g
Rev 3 head or a fettled rev 1/2
Aftermarked ECU - power fc , link, motec etc
Walbro 255lp/hr HP pump
850cc injectors
Decent i/c or c/c
Turbo - this is the key thing to the build. If you want to retain the best throttle response i'd say go with a GT3076 .. this should get you 500hp if everything else is right .. but you'll be pushing it at that .. 450-480 is more a reasonable goal with this. After that its a GT35 and thats when things start to get really laggy!
Decent exhaust system
Boost controller

Think that covers the basics.. !

Dont forget things like clutch, engine mounts, cv cages, healthy gearbox, all cooling system needs to be in good shape.

So whats about the Rev2 head? Is it as good for lets say about 500 bhp like the rev3 head?

Im planning to build up an 3S-GTE, perhaps i should start with an Rev3?! (Thought Rev2 block is stronger)

not sure if this is 100% but...the very early rev 3's have a thin bit somewhere...a popular way to go seems to be a rev2 block with a rev3 head, or rev 5 all the way...weaknesses could also be down to the conditions on the day the blocks were made...

i thought the rev3 head dont fit on an rev2 block?! If i bought an rev3 head i prefer to go with an 170hp n/a head, in germany thats quite popular.

Blocks are just luck of the draw, you either are lucky or not.

Rev3 heads fits no issues.

Rev 3 head is farrrrr better than the earlier ones.

N/A head will fit, just need to get the injector holes opened out to the correct size.

They are both the same casting bar the injector holes - so no difference to be honest.

Sounds good. Looks like I'm onto a good safe 450bhp with responsiveness.
January 2014
..the only thing I can promise for sure is slow progress.

May 2015
just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...
