Mr Clutch any good?

Post by theredbottle »

After 128K miles my MK1B clutch has decided to start slipping. Has anyone tried Mr Clutch? or recommend someone in the London/Surrey area. Also what can I expect to pay?

I've not used Mr Clutch but from what I've heard they're not at the forefront in quality of parts and service.

A clutch will cost between £70 and £100 depending what make it is, last one I fitted was an Exedy that I got from fleabay for about £74. Seemed pretty good. Otherwise have a look on www.buypartsby.co.uk they're well priced.

Fitting costs, not too sure I've only ever paid to get one fitted and it was very pricey due to a couple of seized bolts taking ages to remove. :(

brought one from camskill (pattern brand) for around £85 delivered, im no mechanic so I paid my guy to fit. Was around £100 IIRC to fit it, swapped out some bushes for me too. Took about 3-4 hours to do but it was a saturday and he was busy (I think thats a good price considering whats involved/time). My guys near Millwall football club if yur interested.

Had a clutch fitted by Mr Clutch, South Wimbledon 2 years ago in a Mark 2 for about £350. Did quite a good job, quite pleasant to deal with, got car back in 4 hours, it worked fine and he showed me all the old parts. I sold the car to a friend a year ago (Debs/unowho in Mark 1 Club) and to my knowledge, it's still going fine. It's now done about 15K miles since the work was completed. It had a written warranty of several years I think.

The problme with Mr clutch is that there are good ones, and bad ones from reports on the net. Some have fantastic service, some get pap.

Where abouts are you in london/surrey. edit I see you have now put kingston

I've used below before (was a few years ago now) and they used to be very good, they even fitted the parts I supplied although this wasnt an MR2.

AVOID Mr Clutch.

They fitted a clutch to my Mk1 under 2 years later and less than 18K it needed replaying and the chap who replaced it said it looked like it had been skimmed with an angle grinder #-o

Point proven :thumleft:

It completely depends on which mr clutch you use, some are good, some are bad, read the reviews online for anywhere your thinking of.

Pacific Works, Junction 9 M1 (near Luton)
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.
