Hi folks, how are you all?

Bought myself a early 86mod about 1month ago, been drewling on these for a couple of years and now that i`m done studying and all.

The car is in pretty good shape when it comes to rust, the classical rear fenders is of course starting to feel it but otherwise, pretty clean.

Unfortunately the car have been in a small accident the recent year, and the repair work is crap.

Front right fender is straightened, but it is very obvious that is not a professional job.

Paintjob on said fender is orange peel gone extreme.

It also have an old bump on the right rear fender which is just filled with plastic padding and crap paint.

Right side door is also rubbish paint on, it simply looks really dirty.

Kind of bought the car to save it as there is very few of them here, the only count i`ve seen said about 285 mk1`s in the country, that was 8years ago.

Over to the mechanical stuff.

The engine is leaking oil, presumably from the valve cover gasket(surprise: P), this really became evident after a weekend on the track two weeks ago.

Of course it is suffering from a broken waxstat too.

Gearbox is not suffering from the

"5th gear pop out" problem, but instead it has worn synchronizer rings on 2nd gear.

Brakes is almost useless, they do grip ok, but are really spongy, have bleed it 5-6times since i bought the car.

Got a bit better with new pads, but i suspect an internal leak in the master cylinder.

Have now done a quick refurb on the brake calipers as they where suffering, gliders where slow and front left hung up on a long trip(actually drove 250km without braking that day).

The discs is rusted, it`s so bad that they overheat almost instantly on track, 3-4laps and the pedal hits the floor

Might be the bad pads too, not a good combination.

Plan is to get all of this sorted, the car is now my daily drive so will have to take one thing at the time.

What i have planned(or are planning) is as follows:

- New brakes, either doing a better refurb and stick with mk1a brakes, new discs, pads, master cylinder and seals.

Or upgrading to mk1b brakes all around.

Thinking of black diamond discs and pads.

Also braided brake lines will be mounted.

- Suspension upgrade/renewal.

Would really want a stiffer suspension, but not lower it too much, needs to be driveable in the snow.

- Change engine seals, thinking of buying a complete kit, but have too think about it for a while.

I really want to do the

"black top"-swap.

- Paint job, first round is to sand down the orange peel, also wondering about getting a complete respray done, but that would cost about twice as much as i paid for the car.

If anyone would comment on the

(brake-)upgrades i would appreciate it.
