[Mk2] [Turbo] Silly cheap Intercooler kits?

Post by stig »

Hello folks, I don't normally post on here but found these Intercooler kits on t'interweb.
Surely they can't be any good for these prices (esp the last one) or can they...?
Maybe somebody here has one or similar :-k

The pipework and clamps on the XS Power look good, pipe ends flared etc. how good the i/c core is though is anyones guess.

I've an XSpower and it's crap. Bought it about 4 years ago, had no end of trouble with pipes popping off under boost.

i was told by a reliable source that these cheap intercoolers have the oil cooler cores = poor performance.

when i had one fitted to me rev 3 i lost power at the higher rev range and dumped it for a rouge charge cooler, i was told this information after i dumped mine or i would never have bought it

There fine. Anything is better than stock! If you look around, alot of sellers (EMS/KO etc) in US use ebay cores and just manufacture better pipes. Just make sure the pipes fit ok to avoid boost leaks. Often two of the small pipes you get with the kit are cast rather than ally and are a smaller diameter. Build these up with amalgamating tape until good fit.

Ok thanks for that.
Sounds a bit hit and miss then, especially considering it's not a 5 min job to swap the intercooler over (well not for a mere mortal anyway!)

Anybody else reading tried one of these?

he has been banned on this forum and if he said that i can see why.

i mean oil cooler core wtf? what does that even mean that a company in china is using oil cooler core material and making intercooler out of it lol

when it is quite clearly a bar and plate intercooler construction obvious when looking at it (eg greddy uses tube and fin) you only need to know a little to see this quite clearly.

its like saying the 3s block is made out of chocolate

ps im not saying the chinease intercoolers are perfect they have other probs associated with em but on the mr2 one they just copied a good design and greddys r&d and so a good cheap product.
also xs manifold is garbage.

got myself an ebay xxxx IC. Brand: J Performance.

DO NOT BUY IT!!!

The hoses are WAY 2 wide, you WILL NOT get it work. I will need 2 buy new hoses (which cost about 50GBP cause of the different sizes).

Edit: At least i got my money back, thx at paypal =]

Tb is banned from here? I mean I had no reason to question his knowledge as he runs a specialist mr2 garage.

That'll be the flared pipe ends rather than the jubilee clips ;)
