help on windscreen seal replacement

A little help here please, i replaced the windscreen on my mr2, but didnt have the new seal at time. Does it have to be done at the same time or is there away to make it fit lol. also for the rubber seal does it need some form of sealent or is it just the pressure of the windscreen holding it in place.

Im sure the windscreen seal (part of it) lips around the back edge of the screen...

Yes, im almost sure it does. I remember when I had a total respray iof my old red car, the seal wouldnt go back in properly, had to take the windscreen out (autoglass)
