[Mk2] [Generic] Carbon bonnet wrap

Post by Baker »

Whose done this, is it easy?

just been quoted nearly £200 to get this done from a company called Raccoon, which is steep and i told them just that! [-(

for just £30 odd for the materials i'd like to do it myself, or if anyone else knows anywhere in essex that would do it for a more recession friendly price?

Might be worth trying signs express on burnt mills estate in basildon. My friend was working for them, they wrap company vehicles and the like.
They were quite cheap compared to others in Essex.
You may have to supply the carbon wrap you want you use as the last time I waa down there they didn't stock it.
May be worth a punt.

Wrapping isn't too difficult, we wrapped parts of an mx5. But can be fiddly getting the air bubbles out and no creases. I would say to buy some cheap vinyl and have a play first to get the hang of stretching and heating before going ahead with the more expensive 3m carbon stuff

Pmsl! What drugs are they on? My mate was doing a bonnet and roof for £99 at Santa Pod & JAE!

All depends on what carbon vinyl your having put on. People who do a bonnet and roof for £99 are more than likely using the cheap Chinese crap and don't use the primer for the edges/wrap around.

Di-Noc is more expensive, a lot more expensive but better quality and there is another make which is even better than that.

You get what you pay for at the end of the day. Just look at StevieL signature quote

HEXIS is the other one that most reputable wrapping companies use.

If you are talking Black, then when you compare the Di-Noc and Hexis, the Di-Noc is very grey, as opposed to the Hexis which is a definate black, it also has a nice sheen to it.

I wrapped the Rev 5 blade and the Brake light hoop. Had never done it before, but we took our time and managed fine. The Hexis is very forgiving if you make a mistake, you can gently heat it and lift it back off.

Obvious rules about starting in the centre and working out apply, but for Roof and Bonnet I would def give it a go. The Hexis will probably cost you £50 - £60 to get it in a one piece.

Has a nice feel to it as well.

im thinking of giving it a go, as you say, any mistakes and it can be heated and re-applied.
have you got any photos of your wrapped bits?

Have looked into the other places mentioned, still waiting for quotes!

Many thanks.......I did the work.....First attempt, with the assistance of son-in-law.

Vents are something I have had for many years now, used to supply them along with many other first class body parts, but alas my workload is stupid now so very little time for anything else unfortunately.
