steering wheel wobble

Hi,
when driving between 44-52 MPH, my sterering wheel rocks/wobbles from side to side. Slight pull to the left but not under breaking. Below and above these speeds no problem.

I've had an all 4 wheel geometry check and each wheel balanced, but still have the problem.

Any idea what else it could be suspension? Warped front brake discs?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Wheel bearing..?

..or possibly something on the brake disc outer face / inside of the wheel which prevents the wheel sitting square on the hub...?

who did th egeo set up? sounds like you need 4 wheel alignment, not just your crappy 2 wheel alignment most places do.

it was the 4 wheel alignment i had done. The wheel bearings seem okay, no play, and I will now change the disks and pads ( both of which look okay, very little wear) and hopefully that'll do the trick.

Are you using the toyota alloys or something else?

If other alloys, do you have any hub-centric spacers for the alloys?

FWIW, I'd also get wheels balanced at a trusted specialist. Your average ATS / Kwick Fit are hopeless, I had no end of trouble in a Mk2 MK2.

how old is the car. the lower steering joint can cause these sort of issues when its shot.

It's a 2002 model and yes it does have different wheels with spacers.

4 Wheel geo alignment carried out by a motor sport company.

I've checked the tyre pressure and it's a little high, so will alter this.
I'll be changing n/s front wheel hub as the bearings seem a little dry.
I'll be changing front discs & pads (old discs could be warped)
The rod track ends seem okay.
Will need to check the lower steering joint.
Wheel spacers have been on the car a while and no problems, may need to get these skimmed.

Nice to see someone taking good care of their '2 - all sensible stuff to do.

FWIW warped disks on my '03 are very noticeable under braking with steering wheel shimmy. I doubt they'd be the source of the vibration unless they've taken some heavy damage at some point.

My 03 is just coming upto 110k miles and the front wheel bearings, bushes, balljoints are all OK still. Shock absorbers and springs may be better if refreshed, but I'm happy enough with them as they are - I've got a set of TRD shocks to fit eventually.
