Spotted this car tonight in the traffic near McDonalds in Baguley. Looks really nice and really stood out amongst all the boring new cars.

No, was in a noisy black EP3. Been using the MR2 for work though recently funnily enough, first day back in the Civic today for a while.

Finally got the car on the rollers at TDI North, yesterday.

Ran both ECU's. The modified one was found to be massively over-fueling, the stock one was fine.

Peak power on both ECUs was 132.1bhp. The guy at the RR said that the AFR was something akin to what he'd expect a Skyline to be on full boost(!).

Seriously though as the ECU was more of a hinderance than a help the mods are only really cams and an exhaust/manifold/air filter. It seems to be putting out what others are with the same mods. Mine still has the cat on it too!

To be fair, it's not a new car and I've seen people with stock engines not make stock power, so can't complain.

My main concern was the fueling which is absolutely fine running the stock ECU. Bit of a shame about the modded one though as that's not much use.

Mark is convinced it should produce more and that it's worth fitting a piggy back ECU to get to maybe 140bhp, but tbh I'm okay with 132bhp, with the daft short gearing and lack of weight, it goes well enough for me, plus helps me to keep my licence clean.

Didn't look what it was at the wheels or at the torque figure. All my focus was on the AFR really whilst i was there. Will get graphs emailed to me in due course.

That's a bit of a nonsense statement from him to be honest, AFR is Air Fuel Ratio, a rich ratio is a rich ratio regardless of what vehicle/engine. So by that reckoning a Skyline with the same AFR would be overfuelling too.

If he means it was using as much fuel as a Skyline on full boost then he's talking crap, you have what? 4x 220cc injectors, a Skyline has something like 6x 370cc injectors, so for your engine to be using as much fuel as a Skyline on full boost is physically impossible, or if it was even close to being the case your injectors would be on 100% duty and i doubt your engine would even run, or run very poorly. It would bog down so badly it would be almost undriveable.

There's no doubt you're over fuelling, but to produce 132bhp it's probably only running a bit rich in places, the comment he made about it using as much as a Skyline on full boost is nonsense to be honest.

Well, nonsense or not, the stock ECU was fueling fine, but the Modded one wasn't, so I'll stick with the stock one.

I think he felt it was really too rich at low revs and idle.

Bearding news:

Needed to re-make the electrical connections on the starter following 'that' incident in June at Anglesey where the car wouldn't start. To be fair it's only happened once since, but such things need sorting.

Also wanted to wrap the manifold to prevent it slowly cooking passengers' feet.

Plus needed to change the split steering gaiter.

Manifold out and Mark playing the pipes:



More tunes! Apparently it's part of a ritual, a bit like when he was playing the brake master cylinder, but I think this was more of a challenge:



Manifold clear, you can see the oil cooler sandwich plate and lines here, though what we want to get at is the starter just behind it:

Whilst I got busy with the steering gaiter, the old and the new (Toyota parts of course):

Mark re-routed the cable so it was further away from the exhaust and cable tied it in place:





Bolting the manifold back up to the cat. Hopefully the wrap will stop the floor getting so hot!
