didnt get long on this over weekend, but things didnt start well.

i started filling up the system, and it leaked from everywhere, lol!!

so needed to clamp down all the hose lines (prob best anyway), BUT it also leaked from the drain plug!! it leaked from the adjustment screw! not good.
so i started to remove the plug to have a look at how i could fix it and it snapped!

so now i was left with a drain plug that couldnt be closed. dam!

thankfully found a suitable bolt in B&Q to just replace it with.

more filling again, more leaking, this time from the 3/4" rad adaters, VERY slow, and wasnt noticable before. so had to drain again, and redo the insulating tape on here.
fill again, and found a leak from the filler point! bloody hell!
all sorted now, i hope!

i was now happy with the rad end, so bumper and lights back on.

engine bay end, before filling, i needed to get a long silicon wire hose that would place the filter right in the intake, also ment it would take a bit of weight from the core and not collapse.
also all new tbolt clamps bought and these look nice.
still need to repaint the camcover and make a heatshield, but can leave this till after testing out the setup on the road.

Productive day today!!

I found a minute leak on the adapter on the core.
So drained the system again and taped up the thread some more to help seal it.

For a CC system Coolent isn't needed I'm told, water is the best option.
So I filled the system with deironised water and kept a small about of Toyota Coolent in there to stop any freezing come winter time.

Also thanks to TFS who got a mate to put a barb into the ic pipe so
I could hook up my boost controller.

Finally got a test drive and things feel great!!
Temps are awsome. Staying at 30-32c on boost even with my fast temp sensor in all cases!!
A few 1-4th gear pulls had temps up to 35c. So pretty impressive given I'm ran 1.5bar a few times.

what sensor are you using ?

The RAIT sensor sold on eBay.

Same resistance specs as stock, just much much quicker at reacting to a change in temps.

Tbh installing one doesn't feel great, lol, as it'll show you crazy temps once on boost, crazy but true temps. The stock sensor is slow so it never goes up to the temps it shows with the fast sensor as it's so laggy in comparison.

I'd bet if i put on a stock sensor now I'd hardly see a change in intake temps!

Most of the testing my temps+ambient was 30-32c on commander and only rose like 1-2degrees on single gear boosted pulls!

Hope for more testing tomorrow.

what are you using to display temps ?

Asking as I'm using a cheap computer PC display, and it lies horribly.

Nice build btw, impressive core, thinking of getting a frozen rad myself instead of the fiat rad.

Am on my mob dude, so tricky to find/copy/paste.

Should find something if you type in temp sensor st205 or rx7.

Temps are displayed on my commander and sensor is in the stock location inside the manifold past the tb.

Be sure you get the rad adapters to hook up the pipes.
As you will really struggle to find any in uk.

It's nice to come away with a unique mod all put together and installed DIY style at home.

Granted im using tried and tested parts, but that's what doing research is all about

Gave the system another bleed now it's been sloshing around on the road and temps now only max of 28c.

Looking good jim 2 things you shouldnt of done thou.
1) me & my bro have proved the cooling abilitys of toyota genuine red coolant. as when put in is tlr1000 & cbr 600 fsport it dropped cooling temps by 7 degress.we also put it in me dads truimph stag.
2) you shouldnt of mixed water with toyota coolant as it is pre mixed & you have now destroyed its cooling properties doing so.the amount of customers we have had do this which in turn caused there vehicles to overheat

also a small amount of coolant in all that water wont stop it freezing during winter, you need a substantial amount of coolant or even just pure coolant like Nick says...

id drain it out and just fill it with pure coolant ....

But pure water will provide the best heat transfer and adding a tiny bit of coolent will prevent corrosion.
Don't forgot Coolent is made to be used at 80-90c, Cc water temps only get to 30-40c max, it's basically not doing anything at these temps so Coolent is pointless.
For a cc system water is best.

I am sure the TYoyota coolent I bought was concentrate so needed water adding. I plan to use coolent in my CC not plain water as it has better thermal transfer and added anti corrosion.

coolant is what you need, adding a bit of coolant to all that water will not prevent corrosion and come winter your system WILL freeze and if you then try and run that pump you'll damage it

ive seen it time after time with customers cars who ran either just water or water with minimal amounts of coolant, their coolant system had froze, unknowingly theve started the car and because the impellar on the water pump is surrounded in ice, its either come off the shaft or in severe cases wrecked the cambelt, valves etc etc... obviously simpler in a CC set up... it'll wreck the pump
