N00B with an SW20

Post by M3NDEREZ »

So a friend with a Rev2 Turbo suggested I joined up over here, and I thought it would be rude not to! I'm Carl from Mayfield - Just on the Border of Kent and East Sussex. I've just bought an SW20 as a half finished project for me to do a bit of work on and tool around in for a couple of months while my other car (a dirty low BMW E46) is off the road for a bit of an overhaul!

I'm not exactly new to the Jap scene.. I've had an EG Civic, 3 del Sol's, a truly horrible Impreza (briefly), an FTO, a Celica, an MX-5 (actually a Eunos as it was an import), a Hyundai Coupe, and a 'lude.. I took a couple of the del Sol's to JAE and remember the IMOC stand being enormous, but haven't been since the last year at Mersea Island..

I always fancied an MR2, and had I actually been shopping around for one as a daily driver, I would naturally have wanted the Turbo, but my MOT on the E-NAUGHTY-SIX was about to expire, and since I wanted to take it off the road and do the work myself, I was just looking for a runaround for a couple of months..

Anyway a mate decided to sell his half finished project, and I thought it'd be the perfect thing for me to use while I fixed the BM, and since the insurance is crazy cheap, even keep as a bit of a toy long term. I've known this car very well over the last couple of years, and it's been completely loved and cherished, doing very few miles in the entire time I've known it.. In fact, the front bumper is actually the old one from my 3rd CRX del Sol - I replaced my fake Mugen Bumper for a real one, and the fake one was grafted on to the MR2 - Completely one-off, and you won't see another in the UK.. It has a custom birds-eye-view in dark blue to match the interior with rainbow metal flake, lazy eye conversion, plasmaglow dials, and a few other subtle mods that make it half-way to perfect in my eyes.. In typical car-nut style though, I won't be leaving it alone just because it's a second car.. It's crying out for skirts and rear spats, it badly needs to be de-ambered, and it desperately needs to be lowered.. It'll only be going down on springs rather than coilovers though unfortunately - The front bumper sits way too deep for anything more than a 40mm drop, so I'm not wasting my money..

So essentially this will be my daily runaround for a couple of months as of 1st September.. Comments and suggestions welcomed, if ultimately ignored.. :lol:

I'd post pictures, but apparently I'm not allowed.. [-X :oldtongue:

Hey and welcome. Fabulous cars.
Good luck with the project, lots of good bits to be had in the for sale sections if you keep your eyes peeled. Look forward to the pics.

Thanks for the welcomes, Guys.. May well see you at JAE :thumleft:

I think I have the requisite number of posts to be able to throw up some pictures now, so this is the Mister Two as it stands today;

Shot from Friday with my E-NAUGHTY-SIX.. The MR's the only thing that actually makes it look high!

Mugen CRX del Sol front bumper works quite well I think;

Not the best shot of the Rainbow Metalflake, but you get the idea;

And as it was bought as a half finished project, you can see why I'm in desperate need of some skirts and rear spats! I won't quite be happy until it's around 40mm lower and on 18's either..

Those 17's are in superb condition though, so if anyone wants a swap 8-[

Cheeky shot of the BM just because I love it;
