Possibly New MR2 MK2 owner (Need Help)

Post by Diamond_Bolt »

Hi all

I just sold my MR2 MK1 import and now looking for an MR2 MK2 N/A or Turbo ( I Don't Mint) and I have been offered a Matte black MR2 from my dads mate, Only thing is it needs a bit of work to get it on the road.

He advised me it needs a core plug set ( which is fine I can get that sorted), But doing a HPI check it's all clear appart from,

1. the colour has not been registed
2. I need to apply for a log book
3. It does not show up on insurance companies when I search for insurance.

It has also got a body kit on it that I do not want at all ( people may find it nice but TBH i think its horrid and want a standard body kit)

Its a Rev3 3SGE M Reg and it says on the HPI check that its registered in 2000 so does this make it an Import.

Any help will be much appreciated

Hiya fella.
Sounds like an import to me but that's not necessarily a bad thing... 5 yrs less of salty British winter roads. Likely to have no service history for this period though.
If it were me I'd buy what I wanted not something requiring quite a lot of work... it is a buyers market. That said if you're handy you could sell the kit if it's a good one to recoup funds I suppose but I'd want a better reason to buy a car than it belongs to someone a relative knows.
Have a good look around, go and see many, buy the best you can afford allowing for a full service as soon as it's yours. :thumleft:
Good luck and show us what you end up with.

Hi Mate,

Have gone and seen the car and did take pictures, I will put them up on here when I get home from work tonight.

To be honest I forgot to mention Im looking for one as a project and I will get help from my dad and my brother Both mechanics. Like you said it has missed 5 years of British weather and shows as there seems to be no rust anywhere on it.

I was going to take the body kit off and see if anyone on here would like it at a cheap price (bear in mind its painted Matte atm).

Any idea about core plugs though as I've never tackled a core plug change.

No idea on the core plug swap... try a quick call to an affiliate or two to get an idea of what's involved. You don't say where you are?
With pics we can pass comment on the value of kit... TRD, Toms etc worth good money especially genuine ones but others are worthless more or less.
Imports have square rear plate recesses (unless the bumper has been changed).

I do really like it ( Excluding the body kit and spoiler) and it seemed solid all round.

Copy veilside nose and combat spoiler. You won't get much for them as they are way 'out of fashion' in the MR2 scene nowadays.

Core plug changes are pretty easy with engine out of car. I wouldn't like to do them with the engine still in the car would be a right pain in the ass.

Hi All

Been trying to sort out the car this week and insurance, (Very high for me £2500) but the problem is, insurance companies have it registered as different things, One said it was a MR2 N/A 1990cc Silver, one said it was a MR2 G Import ( WHich I think it is) White (original colour). I have completed the V62 form for the DVLA but it asks for the owners supplement, But if I had that I wouldnt ask for a new log book cause that comes of a log book. Any one who has any idea or if can help me find anything would be much appreciated, The number plate is M293 XRO

Thanks

ok, it was first registered in the UK in 2000 which means it's an import.

This would then make at a G Limited

Hope that helps and every one has come back as being silver.
