wheels and tyre advice req.

looking for a new set of wheel rims for my mk1 to replace the mk3 alloys with mint 185x55x15 kumho sport tyres presently on the car

i think i have decided on the wheel style but what 195x50x15 tyres to buy? or should i keep the tyres i have even though they are smaller?

i don't want cheap budget tyres more middle of the road for mostly summer driving what is a decent tyre at a sensible price.

getting new tyres with new wheels is one option as if i keep my kumho sports i will have to fork out at least another £40 just to have then swapped over to my new rims or i would it be better to sell the mk3 alloys with tyres

Uniroyal Rainsport 2s are very good in that size. A few of my friends run them, very good in the dry and wet.

I found Toyo T1R's were crap in the wet, long lasting though - i got about 20k front and back which was a result.

If your feeling flush get a set of Advan Neova AD08s (yokos) - outstanding grip wet and dry. Surprising amount of grip even when very very low tread on the fronts in the wet too!

very interested in wet / damp handling as i might be able to blame a set of cheap budget brand tyres for my crash of last year.

i have said to my self that i will never buy budget tyres again because i lost the back end on a warm damp sunny morning with cheapo tyres.

when you work out the cost over quality tyres per year it only amounts to a few pounds

so the avden neova look like a good contender

The advans I bought 9 months ago were compared to the R888 as being a contender or even a better tyre.

MK3 alloys aren't worth much at all without tyres. I bought four in Dartford on eBay for £33 and sold my other set for £30.

yes but then you get what you pay for in terms of they have 90% of stock on the shelf ready for you to have. Only some special items made to order you will have to wait for and that's due to the supplier not tweeks themselves.
I buy alot of stuff from them as i know people who give discount, but also as for the reason, if i need something i need it there and then and cant wait around and they in most cases will have it, im certainly prepared to pay a couple of quid more for that.

Which Alex?

When up to temp 888's are awesome and when warming too, tremendous amounts of grip. Terrible in the wet though. Depends what kind of action they are getting. A mat went though a full set in 2 days track action, but he was thrashing the hell out of them both days, and the geometry and pressures were all over the place as he has a cant be ar$ed attitude..

Yoko Advan Neovas in LTS compound are amazing in the wet and also brilliant in the dry.

They are available through buyatyre.co.uk or your local Lotus dealer. Though I'd check whether they are still available. Otherwise if you want good tyres the Yoko Advan AD08s would be the other choice.
