Welder recommendation: between Birmingham and Oxford

Post by matt86 »

Does anyone know someone in the midlands/warwickshire/oxfordshire area who can do MR2 Mk1 welding repairs to a high standard? I am aware that there are some very good welders further up north, but its not realistic for me to travel that far.
Cheers!

what is it you need doing? im making the assuming all the welding will need cosmetic spraying not just to cover the bare metal hence the "high standard".

I'm after 'high standard' in that the repair will last - I'm not so fussed about the repair's asthetics.

I definitely need some repairs to the base of the A-pillars, and someone to have a good look over the car to see if there is any other rotten bits hiding away.

I know a place that did a fantastic job of welding up my mates old mk1 near Oxford,

I can't remember the name of the Garage off the top of my head but their work was second to none.

I now live in Scotland but moved a couple of months ago after living near Oxford for six and a half years,

I think I have a card of one of theirs somewhere I will have a look.

Theres a chap at Buxton Matt, think his name is Gary

He lives & breaths Mk1s & get very good reports from members

I'm thinking of asking him to do some work on mine

Is he too far north for you ?

Sounds promising :) Cheers Oukie... I hope you can find the card!

elbon, Buxton is a bit too far for me, although I have seen some of the work he does on this forum and it does look good.

there are a couple of floor-area box sections which run longitudinally along the front underside of the car - hidden away above the radiator hoses. I was certain I had found all the rust on my car until the mot man failed me on these. you need to get the car well and securely raised and get a damn good spotlamp and have a darn good poke around in that area.

That new to me FE. Must have a look at mine up there

I read that Kate from NI had problems with the floor, including the radiator area
