Kate, I think I might know your car, did it used to live in the North somewhere? There was a guy in Belfast had a car identical to that a few years back. Lovely clean motor and very original.

No idea, of it's orgins before the person I bought it. I bought it off someone in Kerry and then imported into the UK in April which was followed by 2 months of hassle. It is very rare so may well have been the same car.

The photos do not do it justice, it is fabulous in the daylight however it is not what I would call perfect. There are a few niggles and there are some hidden bodges that I have been slowly (with some excellent help) been cleaning up

eg an speedomoter that has no discernible scale, there is a bit of paint missing on one tiny bit of it but you have to know where (I do and it irriates me), there is a random fan in the engine which we are not sure of it's purpose and some others.

The floor was rotten, completely, and I had to have it all redone and sealed but now it is slowly becoming the car it should be. And I am hoping to show it off at Duxford and JAE.

Surprising that the floor was so rotten Kate :?

Presumably it rotted from underneath ?

As it is a tintop it shouldn't have suffered leaks into the car, soaked carpets, etc

I have no idea but it would appear that whoever 'restored' it (I have photos of during the respray) did it on cosmetic items. The chassis is actually ok but the floor was air held together by rust and fibreglass.

In addition there was some other structural work we found (and I had fixed) when the floor was exposed for repairing eg the radiator cradle, radiator and other bits ](*,) . It is almost that the hidden bits of the car are now in a better condition than the body work.

Which does look luscious when clean and polished up. 8)

At a recent MK meet, my Mk1 got a lot more attention than the MK2s that were there :oldtongue:
Am used to being ignored normally :-#

Car looks very good Kate

Is good that you've been able to bring the structure up to scratch now

My T-bar has been letting a LOT of water in for quite a while (almost all solved now) but the floor & the main structure seem solid

Yes, that is now my car.

My insurance is very good for this car (cheers Sky!!) but I am a 'good' risk.

Are you going to JAE?

JAE is possibly the biggest Jap Car show of the year and very well attended.

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=142265

It is in Wicksteed Park in Kettering and a complete social party with marquee, pig roast etc.

It is not about 'perfect' cars, it is about meeting other owners of similar cars so you can share information. I have seen cars repaired and modified by other club members at these type of shows. Between IMOC, Mk1 Club and the OC, there are probably well over 200 MR2's there and I would imagine over 20 Mk1's. Well worth the effort.

Seriously, the condition is not a problem. At all. Grab the chance to look at other cars and see what you want to do with yours, get some advice on stuff. You are seeing my car as 'perfect'. I can assure you it isn't. And you can park next to mine as well! Mini club of Mica Red!
Also interesting to see other Jap cars. Get that ticket bought! You will not regret it.

No one cares about the condition of your car. Seriously you will see MR2s in all types of condition, so don't worry about that! Get down for the social, bring your tent and a load of beer. Sorted. :+:

Its my 5th one in a row this year and I wouldn't miss it for the world!

My arches are crumbling and everytime I switch the engine off it sounds like a baby is crying! But I'm still going :thumleft:

I've never met such a more friendly group of people before. Everyone is nice and friendly. Lauren's dog is also very friendly!
