Dude- stop running that engine!!

Looking at your post in the member's section it sounds like you bought a car with a shot big end, then drove it until it was properly feked.

Drop the sump, confirm it's a shot bearing then make your choice:

1. Scrap the car
2. Pull the engine and rebuild
3. Find a replacement engine

Moral of the story...if an engine is knocking don't keep driving it until it dies!

lmao

ash thanks for that butt kicking!! you speak sense!

im certainly aint scrapping it, so i need to weigh up costs of rebuild against replacement engine i guess.

thanks again.

yeah,

not sure on whats involved in fixing something like that is it strip to bare block with crank being reground and new bearings?

do you think it would be cheaper to find whole engine? i can find them on ebay for £300 mark.

Buy a second hand engine & its false economy, you might get a good one, you might not.

Speak to an engine builder local to you & get it sorted. It wont be cheap though.

IF it's a big end, the best case scenario would have been drop the sump, check the crank journal was ok, and slap a new bearing in.

The noise that your engine is now making I would suspect you may well have mashed the bearing up, or at least spun it, in which case you may well have ovalled the crank journal / scored it badly enough to need a regrind (or replace)...so you'd need to fully strip the bottom end measure everything up and take it from there.
You then need to consider if you have contaminated the rest of the engine with bits of bearing, so you'd be inspecting everything for damage and sorting as required...potentially a big job.

On the plus side- it may not be a bearing, you may have simply destryoed the water pump or the a/c compressor...how was the water temperature behaving when you were running it?

If I was in your position the first thing I would do is drop the engine, then strip the timing belt and inspect the water pump. If that's ok, then I'd flip it and pull the sump the inspect all the big end and mains bearings, and the crank shaft...if it's any help I've got a couple spare crank shafts :thumleft:

get an engine from a breakers yard try to get one you can hear runnig ....... errrrr though with your track record that may not help ......

this (for a motor trader) reduces the risk and as its a stock n/a they can be fould for less than £100 if your lucky

no debait your engine wont take a set of shells so its a regrind & a rebuild this will be costly & will need to be done by someone with experiance,..... i guess that might not be you .....lol...... where as most enthusiasts would be able t pull one lump out & put another one in,...... hope this helps...
