[Mk2] [Turbo] Electrical fault no positive feed from ecu to dizzy

Post by turbotrouble »

Hi all i have just signed up as this looks like the place to be for mr2 knowledgeable ppl.
i have a rev1 tubby mildly modded. it has a ct26 turbo with boost set at 1bar. decat and after market exhaust. fcd. forged engine etc etc.

i warmed her up on the turbo timer this morn then boosted off up my road (not very cleaver i know) i dint get out of first gear because as soon as i hit 0.8 bar the engine died. it felt like i hit flue cut!

i have been all over it with the multi meter and have found that there is no positive feed coming from ecu to the dizzy therefore i have no spark or injection pulse.

i have been running her turned up for a while with no problems at all.

do we think the ecu has given up or do we think that there may be some other sensor/electrical fault causing this problem?

the engine light comes on as usual when i crank it. flash test indicates no problems.

help

thanx 4 looking :-k

pin out for rev1t please dave.

after a long chat with skywalker we think change ecu but. if my ignighter or coil is malfunctioning would this prevent the ecu sending power to the dizzy (in first instance, not via ht leads preventing it sending signal to the ignighter then coil then back to dizzy)

what is the procedure for testing ignighter on the ecu pins? turn on ignition then probe both ig pins?

fk yeah man...if it's split or over white on the resin part...it stands avery good chance of being a bad friend....the bottom pic is the pinout guide that I've used for my rev 2...the top pic,I have been told, is from a celica auto or something...but it gives you a run down of the abbreviasions.

Since when was the ecu suppose to send signals to the dizzy?
The dizzy sends pulses to the ecu with variable voltage (higher voltage at higher rpm as the sensor inside the dizzy is a variable reluctor sensor) to keep track on at what degree the crank is at.

The ecu sends an ignition signal to the igniter, which then opens up a path for the coil negative which charges the coil which then releases the stored energy into the ignition wires -> spark plugs.

right update...
thanx for coil dale she started :thumleft:
problem now is she is running like a pig and puffing black smoke. the rac patrol did take the dizzy out to test it, i urged that it must go back exactualy where it was positioned for obvious reasons. i dont think it being a little out would cause this from experience. any ideas what he may have upset ppl? :?:

Check your timing! If you moved the distributor housing you will notice big changes even if it only moved by a 'relatively' small amount!
