Just done this myself man.

.I couldn't get access to the oilfeed at the turbo end so I would think it better to take the blower off.

.I was changing the turbo anyway so mine was off.

The 2 steel gaskets for the banjo bolt are totally needed.

.mine had a steel gasket and a big washer.

.

.when I refit the new turbo, I had soooo much hassle re-lining the oil feed pipe up to the banjo bolt hole, because I bent the pipe removing it from the car, that I dropped one of the gaskets without noticing.

.4 litres of oil on the floor in a big line.

.even with the big washer fitted back on it still leaked on to the midpipe and smoked like an arl

The steel gaskets are designed to spread the pressure evenly over the banjo fitting.
