Never heard of that. What's wrong with the red lenses?

Would they be legal with clear lenses?

Surely they are red as when the door is open they would be seen from behind and it's illegal to show white light at the back of the car. Don't know if the door lenses class as back of the car when the door is open but maybe that's why the lenses are red to start with.

Never seen anything so far which mentioned you had to have red ones -lots of cars I've had don't have them anyway, I never saw the point in them personally. It's certainly not an MoT check point, maybe it falls foul of the construction and use regs but I doubt it.

Was it wolfie or was it someone in the US I saw selling clear ones? I can't remember now but I'm sure I've seen them before.

(PS: as far as I know it's only a legal requirement to only show red lights from the back of the car when it's moving, can do almost anything you like when it's parked, hence neons are illegal wile on the move but as soon as you park up they're fine -or that was how it used to work anyway)

as long as the bulbs are red when lit they will be legal ,"all rear facing lights need to be red"

Somebody mention my name :D

I don't believe these have been done before for the MR2 but would be nice to confirm before I proceed. I have done them some years back for the Gen6 Celica

Could someone kindly let me have the part no's for these as you know what a PITA it can be trying to order parts and being asked 'what's your chassis no.?'

It may be simplest for me to just buy a new pair to use as masters to ensure a perfect result.

Many thanks for the part no's - damn shame the pics are missing. One thing just occured to me....not sure how large they are?

The ones I made for the Celica were quite small - about 50mm x 30mm x 5mm.

Will check GBP price in the morning and report back. They don'y appear to be available in the U.S either as I've had requests from mr2.com members as well.

Very interesting to see the pics, but it makes me think 'how many people would pay the extra it would cost to have exact OE copies as opposed to making the very cheap ceiling light difusser option'?

Although close up there'd be no comparison in quality, I'll await further feedback to assess viability.

I think these are the OEM parts...

Hope this helps,

Rich

PS from memory off my MK2, they're about 6 to 7in long by about 4in tall at the very most.

Hey Rich,

Thanks for that - didn't realise they were quite so large  ... much bigger than most other models I've looked at.

Due to the fact that they're handed as well, I don't reckon I could make them for less than £50/pair due to the small number of people interested.

I think my time, effort and money would be better spent on the clear triangles, so that's where my next focus will be.
