I may have a problem....

Post by Meko »

After stupidly selling the Supra last March and thinking a Cherokee could replace it i ended up picking up a cheap Rev 2 so i had something fun to drive.

It looked great when wet

but then i sold the Cherokee and decided i wanted a better MR2 so off i went and picked up a Rev 4 Sonic Shadow that needed the head gasket doing. I picked it up cheap and a mate did the gasket for me

quick spoiler change and some Advans.

but the love affair started to go a bit one sided. It'd idle a bit erratic when cold, front sliders were sticking and causing juddering, needed a new clutch and it started spitting coolant from a loose / split pipe.

eBay then very kindly threw up a nice little bargain

MOT failure and no tax, but a full GENUINE Bomex kit including drift wing, lowered springs, air scoop etc and a Magnex exhaust. We almost felt bad handing over £500.
The plan was to stick the calipers on mine to sort the brakes. I'd get the kit and springs and my mate would get the scoop, drift wing and exhaust and we'd break the rest. So we both easily get our monies worth out of it.

but then i got impatient and lost faith in the SS, so i spotted my new toy. A Rev 3 on an L plate which was being sold because it's a "JDM jap import" and he couldn't get insured on it.
L plate, 10k less on the clock than mine, leather interior, Scorpion exhaust, full service history from being imported in 1999, all receipts and MOT's - including 3 timing belts in 70k. But it just needed a clutch

Didn't have the heart to tell him that it isn't a Jap import but probably been a forces car in Cyprus or Ireland or a previous owner has taken it out of the country. It's a UK model that says it's been registered previously overseas.
So that was £505 handed over and the clutch was replaced today. i bought the clutch a while ago for the SS but it was never fitted.
So after the clutch was fitted i swapped it with my mate who originally bought it and fitted the clutch. I take a more reliable 2 and he gets my R plate SS to sort out and sell.

So that's 4 MR2's in a year... shame they're all N/A though!
Now all i need to do is start playing with this one; get the kit on and a blow over etc.

They do indeed, although they need another refurb. They were done about a year ago but a few days after i got them somebody forced me into a kerb and a couple seem to be oxydising.

I just need to get some cash together to get the Bomex kit on and give it a blow over.
