It took about 5 seconds IIRC. ;)

Yeah, I'm not too worried about Ali's feelings. ;)

LOL! Nah, basically bling=blong. So anything shiny, normally of an automotive variety.

I figured if Ali G could invent a word, so could I. ;)

In fact many years ago on the odd occasion I'd change bling to blong in the word censor and leave it for half an hour to see if anyone noticed. Those were the days eh?

I suppose we could have blong as in bling that went wrong, good one. :+:

Have been really looking at how to get this oil cooler fitted. With power steering and aircon it really is making it difficult. The bracket for the power steering is very close to the oil filter, so you can't take the pipes forward to the front of the car.

The sandwich plate can also not point to the rear of the engine as the starter motor is in the way. It can't point down because the engine mount is in the way.

About the only position it can go is about 1 O'oclock. This has it pointing at the exhaust manifold so I can't use the supplied fittings. Then it would have to double back with an elbow straight off the sandwich plate. Even then it's still got to clear the exhaust.

Looks very tricky as there is not a lot of room down there. Going to likely have to remove the exhaust manifold, distributor and get a friend to get some hard pipes made up with appropriate bends to do it as they will take up less room than hose. Then I think we'll join to the flexi hose and take that round the side of the rad by enlarging the hole where the aircon pipes go through to the condensor.

Then there is the small matter of making a mounting bracket for the cooler which is not that straightforward due to the air con rad being in the way so it will have it to be mounted much closer to the front bumper.

Fortunately my friend Tom is going to get all the pipework and mountings sorted out, but it's going to take a bit of sorting.

ROC have got a new affiliate - AEW Graphics. Maybe they could replicate the graphics you need?

Thanks Danny, it does look like I'm going to have to look at replica decals. I really want to find somewhere that can do screen printing (like OEM) rather than just cut vinyl. Just had a look at ROC, can't seem to login anymore. Not sure what's happened there.

There's a long list of things still, I'll get there eventually!

AE86 has gone off to the bodyshop this morning. Wonder how long it will be before I start getting calls, saying 'we've found some more rust'?

I know John but I don't want to relocate the filter if I don't need to as it's perfectly accessible where it is.

I have given the oil cooler job to Tom as a project to get done as he can source all the parts and knows his stuff when it comes to hydraulics and the like so will likely get some hard pipes bent to the required shape. That is, if the sandwich plate actually fits! Hopefully we'll find out at the weekend providing the car is out of the bodyshop by then. Mark is popping down tomorrow to get some pics and report on progress.

I really hope it's going to be ready. Worse case scenario is that I'll have a digital display for oil temp and if it gets over say 110 degrees then I'll be coming off the track.

I'm trying to look forward to Angers, but there is still so much to do and the clock is ticking. I really hope the DS2500 pads from Fensport are okay when they arrive later this week as otherwise I'm in big trouble. So I just can't look forward to it until I know the car is going to be ready.

Mark is working on a project using his datalogger stuff, the idea is to have a three or four line display giving oil temp, pressure and water temp that will mount neatly where the ashtray is. He'll cobble something together for the trackday as oil temp is the key one here.

Lauren, how come your AE86 thread is 22 pages long on an MR2 owners club site and my Mr2 thread is about three pages long ?

hope it all comes together!!

as a backup, I have a decent temp gauge for my s13 you could borrow, just shout.

I'm surprised it's so tricky to get hold of decent track pads for the AE86. I guess the 86 really is pretty rare. I reckon those Ferodo's will be fine, it's a pretty light car. After that tune playing ritual on the master cylinder, it will be fine!!!

Mike, a thread is what you make it. Lots of updates, a running commentary etc. :+:

John, Mark is going to make up a quick digital gauge for oil temp as that's easy to do, it's the oil pressure that he's working on as his previous data logging project was for intercooler in and out temps. But thanks for the offer anyway. :+:

You wouldn't believe what a PITA it is to get pads.

1st attempt: EBC pads that came with the Brembo discs I got off ebay were the right pads but didn't fit properly.

2nd attempt: cheap pads from Ireland that were to get by with. Sent me FWD pads and then had the audacity to make me measure them to determine they were what I had bought according to the dimensions on their site. They weren't so they went back.

3rd attempt: Fensport supplied Ferodo DS2500's (Mintex 1144s like rocking horse poo and discontinued). Will have them for the weekend hopefully that will do the job!

LOL about the master cylinder brakes are much better now even on the old front pads!

Of course Mike. :+:

I think though for me I'm doing a lot to the car at the moment. In time that will slow down as I get through the seemingly very long list of jobs and all that stuff.

Hopefully will have some pics of progress in the bodyshop tomorrow as Mark is popping in for a progress update.
