Should I be Suspicious? (Buying a REV 2 MR2 Turbo)

Post by Cliff »

Another question for you guys, (sorry).

I've been in contact with a dealer who in my opinion sounds like he is fairly new to importing cars, (not that I'm an expert or have any clue myself), who is selling a REV 2 MR2 Turbo.

He explained that it is a fresh import and he has the de-registration documents, etc. However, he doesn't have the V5 as he registers the car in his company name first and will receive the documents in about a week. I call him a week later, (not knowing who I am) and he tells me again he is expecting the V5 in a week.

He say's its not a problem as all he needs to do is once he receives the V5, he will fill it in and post it to me. Then I fill in the relevant details and send it to the DVLA.

Wouldn't this basically mean I would be buying a car without a V5 document? What can I do?

Again, all your help uis very much appreciated!! :D.

for the sake of waiting a week i would just hang on and check the numbers out, if the vat has not been paid on the car then they will not register it, you only have his word the paperworks in order - if he's a genuine trader i am sure he will apprecate your caution.
