just priced delivery on what i think the dimensions of 4 tires are 100cm-50ms-50cm weighing 40KG price inc VAT £110.04 so its an extra 40 quid per tire

if you want I can get what ever you decide on pack them up and ship them off.

just got a rough price for a set of the TOYO T1R from (camskill) may be a cheaper place it was just a quick google. pair of 195-50-15 and 225-50-15 to be 241.20 plus 9.96 delivery to me then the 110.04 shipping
361.20 to ya door if you get stuck.

may be able to get them cheaper as well pm me if you want to look into it properly.

Very kind offer :thumleft:

But I'm still thinking on what I should get.
Gonna read up on the handling of the R888 in wet now :oldtongue:

Okay, new options:

Toyo R888
Kumho V70A
Yokohama A048
Hankook RS2 Z212

Hear good things about them, R888 is even okay in wet. Hankook equals the R888 but with better wear.
Now I'm gonna check the prices :pale:

If you're doing 1800km a month, the last thing yuo want on the back of your car is Toyo R888/Kumho V70A/Yokohama A048. They'll last about 5 months!

I ran A048's on my Charade turbo, they'd last about 4000 miles/6400km on the driven wheels, and the car only had 160hp!

That's a good thing, right? Because then the winter is arriving :oldtongue:

Did some price shopping for the above.
The guy thought I had a old Porsche or Donkervoort, according my sizes

He offered me a set of Toyo RA01 with 25% discount for €610,- all in.

2 suppliers, one much cheaper with the R888:

R888:
Front €170,- or €155,-
Rear €234,- or €185,-

A048:
Front €251,- or €228,-
Rear €278,- or €267,-

Camskill does a rear R888 for 143 pounds (€162,). So there isn't a real benefit buying them overseas :-k

ive been looking into this, completely forgot this thread was around. ive come down to the same list of 4 as you have. my conclusions were as follows:

A048 is no better than R888 despite being much more expensive.

The Kumho is a pretty good tyre, most think its on par with the R888 and is normally the same price. the fact they do a hard variant of the tyre means you can have a higher milage option if you choose to.

The Hankook offers 90 - 95% of the dry grip of the other 3, double or triple the milage and vastly more wet grip due to having a proper tread pattern. They are also significantly cheaper

Im looking for a tyre i can drive to and from trackdays and around the track on. This could be in all weathers, and ill be keeping them on in winter, so im going with the Hankook RS2's. Cheapest place is camskill.

Why do people stick to the std tyre sizes religiously?

Has no one ventured into more pocket friendly sizes?

Having gone from wide 17" wheels with 40 profile tyres back to 15" with stock tyre sizes, IMO the car handles better, is more forgiving over poor surfaces and communicates far more what the back end is doing.

So it looks like the T1R has been discontinued, and it's replacement the T1 Sport has been announced

http://www.toyo.co.uk/tire/pattern/proxes-t1-sport

Unfortunately it appears they do no 15" sizes!!

------------

OK Scratch that, just spoke with Toyo this morning, 15" is remaining as T1R.

Stock is not showing on most tyre websites as they're out of stock due to the earthquake in Japan. Restock is expected first two weeks in July.

Thats a shame - I was using T1R's on my old corsa for years seeing as I could get them for less than £50 a corner fitted!

So, new dilemma:

Got some nice

Image

17x8 +35 front
18x9 +35 rear

Currently with
215/40/17 Eagle F1 front
245/35/18 Pilot Sport rear

They need replacing... what is my best bet.
Keep those sizes?
And what about brands?

(2 new current rear ones cost around €550,-... so I'll be happy with something cheaper)

Sell the advans, get some smaller wheels which will mean you dont have to get cheapy tyres in a large size and could get some decent tyres in a smaller size :thumleft:

Was thinking about that as well. But can't go any lower then 17" due to the bigbrake kit on the front.

To finish my previous subject:
I went for 4x Falken ZIEX ZE-912.

Can't comment them really, because 2 weeks after the purchase my car got wrecked.
But they felt so much more comfort then my previous ones!

RE-Hijacking this to the original title, I noticed someone floated the idea of changing the rear tyres to something more wallet friendly, or at least selection friendly.

Any idea what sizes work well on the rear?
