Just bought a MR2 at the weekend......

Post by b20sx »

Hi All,

Just bought a red MR2 Mk2 rev3 GTS turbo hardtop from furiouslee at the weekend.

Im lovin the car so far and its going to be my weekend toy and good weather/summer car! Its runnin 265bhp at .9psi and pulls very well without any faults at all. Also thumbs up to lee who was a top guy and told me to get on here pronto! My last rwd car was a nissan s14 and I think I prefer the MR2 already.

The bodywork isn't the best but is isn't the worst either! I think im going to keep the power the same and tidy the bodywork up overtime. (Famous last words) lol! Its done 83000 miles and had a rebuild by AFR tuning late 2009 due to engine failure. Its a import and lee gave me stacks of history with it which is good.

The only issues with it are a loud thrust bearing on the clutch, alternator belt squeels on cold startup for a few seconds and it has a stone chip in the window. No other issues which is great! Lee also gave me a bomex bumper and diffrent side skirts.

I look forward to meets, shows and picking all your brains on here. Here is some more of the spec and will post pics up as soon as I have posted enough times!!! Steve :D

Lee just fitted these parts this month:

1. Brand New Genuine Toyota Front Shocks x2

2. Brand New Genuine Toyota Top Mounts X2

3. Apex front and back 30mm lowering springs

4. Brand New Anti Roll bar drop links front and back

5. All parts purchased from TCB Parts and cost well over £600

Modifications

1. HKS Dump Valve

2. HKS Induction Kit

3. OMP Steering Wheel

4. Momo Gear Knob

5. Lexus 17" wheels (Front 205/40/17R) Back (235/45/R17) Continental Sport Contact 3.

6. Blitz Sequential Boost Controller

The exhaust is a special one off handmade stainless steel exhaust with decat. No cat required due to age. It sounds amazing but it is very loud. Its definitely a unique sound.

7. HKS Decat

8. Sports clutch

9. Front strut brace

10. Quick Shift kit

11. Toms Scoop for cold air induction

12. Clifford alarm and immobiliser

13. 265 bhp rolling road printout

14. Sony Head unit

15. Parrot hands free kit

16. 2x Auto Gauge's showing Turbo Boost and Oil Pressure

17. 3 x Motor Racing Gauges ( Volts, Water Temperature and Oil Temperature)

The car was ALWAYS warmed up and cooled down correctly on every run, no exceptions.

Also recently replaced:

1. New battery

2. New Radiator (late 2010)

Hi to you all and thanks for the warm welcome, My main plans are get the bodywork sorted as it ready for attention in some areas. I am quite happy with the power for now (yes right!? LOL!) so i think I am going to leave it as it is for now.

Its going to be my weekend toy and good weather car including the odd run to work weather permitting.

Just wanted to say that I am very impressed with the MR2 and cant think why I didn't get one a long time ago. LOL! Took her out today to my friends who has got a Black GT turbo. It pulls well and doesn't miss a beat!

Looks nice (although the scoop ain't to my own personal taste) 8)

Welcome along buddy, we should set up a poll to see how long you resist the temptation for more power!

Squealing belt is an easy enough fix, and a good opportunity to get your hands slightly dirty

Save the release bearing for when you need to change the clutch I reckon :thumleft:

Hi Ash,

I agree it wil be worth leaving the release bearing until the clutch needs doing. It should have been done when the rebuild took place but was forgotten!? I have read your thread and already I am tempted to make changes. LOL!!!!!

I will have ago at sorting the belt out, I also need to sort out the front fog light as it needs a replacement. :)

A few questions for you guys, how many times do you have to post before you can put up URLs?

Also what is the best oil to use, I am going to service the car next month, and is it hard to fit a front fog light?

15 posts to post URLs I believe.

Front fog light easy enough to replace providing that the mounting screws come out ok. Most are rusted solid :(
