Water pump and floor welding required.

Post by Damian »

Hello.

Took my MR2 down to the local garage this morning for them to give it a once over. It's got 2 months MOT left but it is currently SORN so i wanted to see how it was and if i should hang onto it.

Just called the mechanic and he told me that it requires welding underneath in the floor and the alternator belt had snapped probably because the water pump has seized!

My questions are:

How easy is it to change the water pump if this is knackered?

And can anybody recommend where i can get welding done in the Derbyshire area? I'd like it to go to someone who knows what they are doing rather than him.

Cheers.

Ok, i've found some information on the water pump, that doesn't look too bad. It says i have to drain the system. Is this difficult? Is there anything i need to know about this? I've heard air locks and things can be a nightmare!

You don't have to Drain the system to change the water pump. I just took mine off and lost about 3l coolant into a bowl. When finished just topped back up slowly. I did not even have to bleed system.
