[Mk2] [NA] gearbox change... what fits??

Post by kniterider »

hi, have got another mr2, this time a 94 rev 2 aquamarine n/ model, the gearbox makes a very whiney noise and the clutch is at the end of its life so im going to change them both unless i can find out the bearing sizes as i think its the input shaft bearings that are no good! . few questions , i changed the oil in the box first, i brought 4 litres but it only took 3 to fill, does this mean its a lsd box? also are all the n/a s running the same boxes as i dont want to have to change hubs or drive shafts or anything else? and also ive heard celica gearboxes are a straight fit apart from the selector mechanism on the top which would have to be swapped from the mr2 box. any help on these questions would be great! and anyone who has a good working order gearbox in or around lincolnshire get in touch!

thanks!

all the mk2 NA gearboxes will fit. rev2+ is better (synchro).

i think your right with the celica boxes too. they may have different final drive and/or gear ratios, i don't know.

the jap import NA boxes have a different final drive ratio so it seems like the gears are shorter. so if you want better fuel economy then get a uk box, or a jap one for traffic light gp's.
