[Mk2] [NA] starting issue...

Post by Rico »

I've got a Rev 3 NA which refuses to start.
It'll start and run the first time I try it with my foot on the gas but it only runs for a few seconds then starts to die.
While its in the process of cutting out, the Check light is flashing but I'm not getting any codes from doing the diagnostic check.
With every turn of the key, it kicks for a second as if its going to start then doesn't.

I've checked all the obvious stuff and it has a new dizzy cap and plugs.
The car hasn't been getting used but was running fine when it was parked up a few weeks ago.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

My first thought was a duff coil pack but given you have a light flashing - run another diagnostic. Are you sure you are doing it right?

Also - which lihght is flashing?

Yeah I thought it might be the coil pack too or maybe the fuel pump?
Definitely doing the check properly and its the engine management light flashing.

Glad you got it sorted, where did you get a coil from (and if you dont mind me asking how much) and was it hard to change?

Cheers

I bought a 2nd hand one from a member on here, I think it was about £35.
Very straight forward to fit, 2 bolts and 3 plugs. :thumleft:
