[Mk2] [Turbo] distributorless ignition

Post by fastfu »

I have a spare mk2 turbo i keep for spares for my main car but after a mate of mine mentioned he is selling his unfinished kit car it got me thinking about buying it and putting an mr2 turbo engine in it.

my only concern is that as its rwd im going to run into clearance issues between the firewall and the distridutor

is that such a thing as a distributorless ignition for the mr2 ?

Yeah man...you gotta speak to T.F.S...Brian on here...he has just put a distributer-less system on his build...he really knows his stuff and is a real nice chap, so I'm sure he would answer your questions.

lol

well i have an aftermarket ecu so it allowed me to prety much bolt the stuff on and wire it up..the stock ecu will not be so forgiving..

it can be done with the stock ecu and theres a group buy on here somewhere with the parts but i would recommend going with an aftermarket ecu personally if its within your budget

If you are after doing it on a budget the megasquirt system works with the ford edis which you can pick up for pennies.

...Toyota did it with the gen 4 3SGE :D

Must be do-able as a retro fit on other generations with the right parts brought together. There's plenty of kits to choose from I'd have thought.

I sell a distributorless kit for the 3SGTE ECU under group buys. But you still need the trigger wheel inside the distributor though for ignition timing, but the large distributor cap can be removed and replaced with a more slim aluminum cap which i have one left of btw.

I only have one left i think. It is £50 + shipping. It is raw cnc aluminum, i can have it painted in whatever color you want (powder coating) or a thin black layer through electro coating (best suited for this part)
