[Mk2] [NA] mr2 lacks power

Post by dayc1972 »

hi my 92 mr2 2.0 3sge uk non turbo model intermittently lacks power.
you can feel it drop of and seems to be holding back. then you can feel it go ok again.
its had a full service, plugs leads disy cap etc.
i was thinking a vaccum leak. but cant find any splits.
have fitted a new fuel filter but still the same.

please any ideas

First thing would be to check for any error codes.

Timing is a possibility, but I'm not sure it would cause an occasional lack of power....

when my timing was out it kinda behaved like this, and its an easy 5 min check / adjust :)

thought some more, could also be fuel pump / pressure modulator, air intake sensor or AFM, or MAP sensor

yep, 10 degrees for all MR2s regardless of engine type :)

lets hope it sorts it :thumleft: its always worth checking the timing every time you do a service, i check mine every time i change my oil, about every 4000 miles.

if it does not fix it, there are a few other things it could be which you say havent been done yet.

1) Lambda sensor (this controls fuelling)
2) Air intake temperature sensor
3) Coolant temperature sensor (also controls fuelling)

nothing particurarly henious there! most MOT garages will happily stick your car on their emmissions tester for a few quid to help you diagnose lambda issues
