Thought I'd introduce my new toy......

Post by Steve Horrocks »

I've mentioned it to a couple of folk now about getting one, and now I have, I'm back in the MR2 fold in the shape of a mica blue mk1.5! Woo hoo!

She's not the most cleanest example around, but for a bit of track work, it's spot on!
Rev1 tubby engine, konis, poly bushed, got st205 CC to replace boot mount, mk3 alloys, celica twin pots oop front, black interior! Lol, very detailed history including servicing up to last couple of years. I like it!!

I like it too. I had to check the reg to make sure you hadn't posted pics of my mk1.5. We're twins \:D/.

Photo this morning.

I've only done a few mods, blitz ECU, new knock and water temp sensor, a bit of plumbing and a standard recirc dump valve (sounds amazing, like a mid 90's WRC, a lovely whistle/chirp) and a turbo back 3.5in exhaust system made to look like a standard one. The car came with an ST205 CC and CT20b turbo already fitted. Acceleration is brutal.

Keep us up to date with any changes you make, I'll prob take inspiration as you know what you're doing with the 3S-GTE unlike me, I'm more of a 4A-GE kinda guy.

Oooh! Twin! Looks nice does that!
I wouldn't wait too long for updates on mine, gonna leave it pretty much "as is" (at least for now! Lol  )

Wouldn't mind a ct20b possible at some point, or maybe a rev3 swap, but other than that, wanna keep it pretty stock I think!

Ooh Steve, who'd have thought it? Very cool though. :+:

Great stuff though, 'best engine in the world' in a MK1.

Do I take it you might be up for a trackday? Am looking at Angers on June 18th for my big birthday.

Welcome back to the fold mate. How does it compare to a MK2 with the same engine?

Bet it's a beast

Can't really compare at the mo pinky, it's got a misfire around 3k rpm, but ie just orderd new dizzy cap, rotor arm & leads and am gonna do quick oil & filter change then get it MOT'd after a quick afternoon with the welded (better get used to that part!)
But from (cheekily) driving it home, it feels "fun"!

Although, forgot to add, had a drive of my mates Civic Type R (modded to 250bhp) and that felt chuffin awesome!!! Definitely getting one of those now! The noise is fantastic at over 8k rpm!

Oh Steve, you so should have had a ride in the Teg when I had it. That engine was to die for at 8500rpm.

Plenty of time to get sorted for trackday Steve. Am thinking Angers with BaT on Sat June 18th. Cost a smidge under £200 for GP circuit, so plenty of room to play. :+:

My skillz are not to shabby, but never done a full on track day before (done the ring tough, that was hairy in my old car!) and can hold my own on't roads, but you'll prob have to pass me down some track tech advice! lol Wouldn't bother me with anyone else! ha ha!

Oh, non LSD as well (at the mo!)

Oh Steve, you so need an LSD really. Still makes it less likely to go backwards into the tyre wall I guess. ;)

I can give you a few pointers. As I said bag some laps in the AE86, reckon you ought to be able to pick up something. Am happy of course  to drive your car below the limit on track, so you can see lines, techniques. I'm sure you'll be fine!

Get practicing with your heel and toeing. :+:

I know! Only tried the car on my street on Sun to see if misfire had gone/improved, and tried whipping it around the mini roundabout, just had 1 wheel squeeling away! I miss my LSD already! lol

Don't worry about driving below the limit, just don't break something! ha ha!
