[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 2 power upgrade

Post by tubbyone »

Quick question

I'm about to set off on and up the power of my rev 2 turbo by the easy route i.e. metal head gasket, bigger intercooler, boost controller and adjustable fuel cut defender.

To make sure I am monitoring boost and oil temp, I've also bought a pair of speedhut gauges to do this and was wondering if/how I can wire these up to existing sensors without messing anything else up or whether I need to fit new sensors and if so, where would I get them and where would I fit them.

Any advice much appreciated.

You could use one of these:

Or there was this dicussion which might help?

..the only thing I can promise for sure is slow progress.

just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...

try and avoid cheap sandwich plates.

imo if you're starting to mod, I'd start with whiteline anti roll bars. best money you'll spend behind a boost controller!

upgrade

Cheers for the answers.

I've already done KW varient 3 coilovers, whiteline arbs, tein front top mounts, toms rear top mounts, mongoose exh, blitz induction kit, grooved discs and yellow stuff pads (well I think they are as the last owner did it).

Already got a blitz boost control, just need to buy the intercooler, fuel cut and head gasket then I can start fitting.

ANy advice on where to get a good sandwich plate for oil press/temp sensors then?

And where best the sender for an electronic boost gauge?

Anybody else on here got speedhut gauges - I need to buy the sender units for boost and oil pressure and do not know where to get them from?

More often than not...the sandwich plate will leak on a rev2 tubby cos it's just too close to the exhaust manifold and gets too hot, warps slightly and leaks right onto the downpipe...some of the "name brand" sandwich plates seem to work ok but I tried 2 and sacked them both...I have my oil temp sensor in a sump nut adapter and oil pressure taken from the stock location but using a braided t-piece to retain the oem pressure sensor and wont vibrate and crack (braided line).
You can get some "generic" parts from www.rspec.co.uk and can T into any suitable sized vac line to plumb it in...with the EBC, I would give it a vac line all of its own, you will find at least 1 behind the plenum that isn't used and blanked off...locate all electrical sensors out of the heat as much as posss and not in a place where they will get soaked from the rain.
1 word on sump nut adapters...get a steel one if you can...it's easy to snap the brass type when winding them in, it's M12 thread with a 1.5 pitch. I have an r-spec sump nut adapter, it's brass and I felt it start to snap on the last turn when I cranked it up...a fkn nightmare for me when it comes time to change the oil!

i got an ebay jobbie sandwich plate on mine. Running temp and pressure sensors.
It's been on a year and not lost one drop of oil and works perfectly. I just used a bit of sealer around the rubber gasket they give you for added security.
